As you can see above, I’ve made some progress in the last week but not nearly enough. I’m now 982 words further in my WIP, which brings me to a total of 3,219 words. It also brings me to 1,870 out of 10,000, which is my goal for the month. I’ve also managed to accumulate a few more badges in the last week, as well. I achieved the two and three day streak badges, as well as the 1667 badge. This past week I focused more heavily on my work and reading than I did on writing, which has left me significantly behind. I’m going to do my best to catch up this coming week by setting at least 30 minutes aside each day to do some writing. So, hopefully I’ll have the seven day streak badge in my next update.
I’m excited to share a brief excerpt of my work for the first time. Keep in mind this is from a very rough draft, but here is a bit of the beginning. I hope you enjoy.
He sat on the dais in the brightly lit throne room. The late afternoon sun beamed through the large stained-glass windows casting beautiful colors throughout the elegant room and lighting up the ornate tapestries adorning the walls. He looked around the room, taking in its splendor, and sighed heavily.
Get me out of here, he thought.
His jaw and body ached from the tension created by an entire day of polite smiles and attempts to look regal. A dark shadow from the throne above grabbed the attention of his hazel eyes as they glazed over, and he fell into a slump in his chair. Slowly, his head turned to the left as he glanced back at the source of the darkness amidst the dazzling light in the room, his father’s throne. It also happened to be the shadow looming over his entire existence and trapping him in a life he no longer wanted.
