Mid-Year Freakout Tag

I’ve seen this tag all over, and it hit me that the year is halfway over. I decided to jump on the bandwagon and give this tag a try to reflect on my year so far in books. I was unable to track down where the tag started. So, if anyone knows, please feel free to link to them in the comments. Without further ado, here are my answers to the tag!

Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2021

I absolutely loved this book and the existential crisis it created while reading it. I was completely caught off guard by the twist and adored the relationship between the two main characters.

Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far In 2021

This book technically comes out today, but I was lucky enough to get an ARC of it a while back. It is a great book and an excellent sequel to The Extraordinaries. It moved the story forward into exciting new territory that left me itching for the next book.

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To

This is a really tough one because there are so many I want to read, but I’ve been wanting to read this book for the past few months after I didn’t get the ARC from NetGalley. It is next on my TBR. So, I’m pretty excited.

Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year

This might be cheating since I’ve already read the book, but Any Way the Wind Blows was my most anticipated release of the year. It was released a week ago, which is technically in the second half of the year. 🙂 Another that I am highly anticipating is Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune.

Biggest Disappointment

I was really excited to read this book based on its premise, but I didn’t care for the writing style and was put off by the main character. So, I was pretty disappointed because I went into it thinking it would be a five star read. I don’t think it is a bad book. It just wasn’t for me, which made me sad because I was so excited about it.

Biggest Surprise

I didn’t really know what to expect from this one going into it, and I absolutely loved it.

Favorite New Author (Debut or New to You)

I’ve read three books by TJ Klune so far this year, and I can’t wait for his next release Under the Whispering Door. I have loved everything of his I’ve read. So, he’s probably my favorite new (to me) author of the year so far.

Newest Fictional Crush

So, I definitely had a crush on the Darkling while reading these books, which may or may not have been the result of imagining him as Ben Barnes. 😳

Newest Favorite Character

I’m beginning to feel like a broken record, but I absolutely adore Nick from The Extraordinaries and Flash Fire. He’s just so extra that I find him a joy to read.

A Book That Made You Cry

This one had me all in my feelings despite the ending being clearly on the cover. There was lots of crying but in a cathartic way.

A Book That Made You Happy

This is a book that made me feel a lot of emotions, but happy was one of the most predominant ones. It was such a heartwarming story, and the relationship between the main characters and the ending just made me so happy.

The Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought So Far This Year

I love the cover of this book. I knew I had to buy it from the second I saw it, and it looks great on my shelf.

Books You Need to Read By the End of the Year

Ha. There are way too many of these to list here. So, I’m not even going to try.

Favorite Book to Movie Adaptation

When I think about adaptations, this is the only one that comes to mind from this year. I enjoyed it even though quite a bit was changed from the book. It made me very excited to read Six of Crows, which I’ll hopefully get to soon.

Well, those are my picks. It’s been a great year of books so far. I’ve really enjoyed this tag! I tag anyone else who would like to complete it.
