First Lines Fridays (14) – July 16, 2021

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
  • Finally… reveal the book!

Today’s First Lines:

“Joost had two problems: the moon and his mustache.

He was supposed to be making his rounds at the Hoede house, but for the last fifteen minutes, he’d been hovering around the southeast wall of the gardens, trying to think of something clever and romantic to say to Anya.”

Thoughts & Comments

I have really been wanting to read this book. I’m planning to try to squeeze it in this month or add it to my TBR for next month. The first lines are interesting, but they don’t really give anything away about the book. Although, I REALLY just wanted to keep reading…

Does this book sound like something you would like? Why or why not? Let me know in the comments!
