Monthly Wrap-Up: August 2021

This has been a roller coaster of a month. Between my health stuff and hurricanes, I’m actually astounded at all I got done. I loved participating in Trope-ical Readathon and was actually on track to complete all the challenges before the hurricane drama of the past few days. My partner and I have been housing some of her family, who evacuated for hurricane Ida, which made it difficult to focus on reading these last few days of the month. I’m grateful to have been able to help them and be a safe place for them to go, but I’m also looking forward to things getting a little more back to normal again. I’ve made significant progress on my annual reading challenge and read a lot of great books this month, which you’ll see below.

Trope-ical Readathon

Unfortunately, I didn’t quite complete my Trope-ical Readathon TBR, but I did finish 14 out of the 16 challenges. I swapped some of the books as the month went on, as well, but I read most of the books I initially set out to read. Here’s a list of everything I ended up reading along with the associated challenge:

Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper (Reread Challenge)
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo (Found Family Challenge)
The Hand of the Sun King by J.T. Greathouse (Coming-of-Age Challenge)
The Third Kingdom by Terry Goodkind (‘Meaty’ Book Challenge)
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Published Prior to 2000 Challenge)
Blood Animus by Kyle McKeon (eBook Challenge)
A History of Madness by Rebecca Crunden (Post-Apocalyptic Challenge)
The Other Side of the Whale Road by K.A. Hayton (Historical Figure Challenge)
The Taking of Jake Livingston by Ryan Douglass (Read in 24 Hours Challenge)
Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé (Multiple POV Challenge)
The Crystal Cave by Mary Stewart (Retelling Challenge)
The Dark Is Rising by Susan Cooper (Prophecy Challenge)
The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne (There Be Dragons!! Challenge)
She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan (Team Book)

Progress On My 2021 Reading Goal

August 2021 Reviews

In total, I completed 4 full-length book reviews and 4 mini book reviews. One of the reviews was for a blog tour, which was a lot of fun to join. I reviewed the following books:

Blog Posts

I continued participating in First Lines Fridays and Stacking the Shelves. These are still a lot of fun to do, and you can find my posts listed below.

I also wrote several blog posts about my Trope-ical Readathon progress this month and wrote a post about my 6 most anticipated releases of September 2021.

Final Thoughts

Looking back on my TBR for August, I met a lot of my goals. I finished reading most of the books on my TBR, but I am a little disappointed I wasn’t able to finish them all. I got some new ARCs I’m really excited about, but managed to mostly maintain my NetGalley feedback ratio. Overall, I liked what I read this month and have had a lot of fun with the books and posts I was able to do. I have enjoyed participating in the Trope-ical Readathon, and I will probably participate again in the future.

  1. Great job on meeting so many goals in August! I just got a copy of Six of Crows and it awaits reading as I have at least three books here to read and review before I can pick a “for fun” book. But I’m not complaining because my current read The Other Merlin by Robyn Schneider is hilarious and makes me stay up too late reading.

    • Thank you! It was definitely a busy month but also a lot of fun. Yay for Six of Crows! I enjoyed it and hope you love it as much as I did. I’ll have to check out The Other Merlin. It sounds great. I hope you are having a great September!
