Top 5 Tuesday – Top 5 Series I Haven’t Finished

Hello everyone! Welcome back for another Top 5 Tuesday! The prompt for today is the top 5 series I haven’t finished. I’m going to try to avoid a ton of repetition on this one because many of the books from the last few weeks should probably land here, as well. However, there are plenty of others to choose from, as well. So, here’s what I’ve got when it comes to series I really need to read more of… Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm, and is now being hosted at Meeghan Reads!

Alphabet Squadron by Alexander Freed

I’ve read the first two books in this trilogy, but I just can’t seem to make myself read the last one. I didn’t really care for the first one that much. The second book was a little better, and the characters became much more interesting. However, the writing was still super dense. If it wasn’t for my extreme obsession about reading everything Star Wars, I probably wouldn’t bother with it, but here we are. The end of the second book left things in an interesting place, though. So, hopefully the final book will be enjoyable.

The Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare

There are so many parts to this series. The books take up almost two shelves on my bookcase. I would say that I’m probably halfway through…maybe. I’ve finished The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices. I also read the first book of The Eldest Curses, but I haven’t started The Dark Artifices or The Last Hours yet. One of my goals this year is to get caught up on all of them, but we’ll see how it goes.

Arthurian Saga by Mary Stewart

This is one of the series that has been on my TBR the longest. I finally started it last year and have three more books to go. I really enjoyed Stewart’s human take on Merlin, and I’m looking forward to seeing her rendition of the rest of Arthur’s story.

Grishaverse by Leigh Bardugo

I’ve grown to really love these books. Shadow and Bone was a bit of a rocky start, and the rest of that trilogy was hit or miss for me. However, I love Bardugo’s writing, especially her ability to make the character’s come to life through great dialogue. The Six of Crows duology was fantastic, and I loved both books. I still need to read King of Scars and Rule of Wolves, and I’m looking forward to them both because I’m curious about the state of Ravka after the end of Ruin and Rising. Also, Nikolai is one of my favorite characters from these books. 🙂

The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan

I started this series last year to read the first book before the show came out. There are 14+ books set in this world. So, it will be quite a while before I finish them, but I plan to slowly make my way through them all. I’m currently listening to The Great Hunt, and I’m enjoying it so far. The characters and world of this story are great. I’m just hoping the pacing gets better as it progresses because these 700+ page books really get bogged down at times, which is why I’ve switched to audio. I can set the speed at 3x and zoom through the slow spots. 🙂

So, there you have it. The top 5 series I still need to finish. What series are you trying to get through? Let me know what they are down in the comments!

  1. I really ought to have put Wheel of Time on my unfinished series as I gave up at about book 10. I intend to try and read through the whole series this year

  2. Oooh, I feel like we’re about on par with Shadowhunters!! So close I almost want to yell *JINX*! 😂 But alas, you are one book ahead of me.
Also, Nikolai is the best, and the KoS duology is a nice cut between original Grishaverse characters (Nikolai, etc), and Six of Crows characters (Nina). It’s fun and funny, but has its really poignant moments too. Good luck with it — I adored it.
Hope you had fun this week 💕

  3. I read the Grishaverse and SoC books ages ago and have forgotten so much about all the books… I’m hoping to re-read them this year and then finally pick up my copy of King of Scars! 😂 I hope you enjoy all these books whenever you get around to reading them!

    • It is definitely a commitment because the series, and each of the individual books themselves, is really long. I read the first one and listened to the second one. I’ll definitely be doing audio for the rest of them because I was able to listen at 3X speed during the super slow parts. lol.
