Top 5 Tuesday – Top 5 Snacks for Reading

Hello everyone! Welcome back for another Top 5 Tuesday! The prompt for today is the top 5 snacks for reading. In general, I don’t really eat that much while I’m reading. The food tends to distract me from the book, and I’ll often end up sitting down and eating the entire snack before I even get back to reading. I’m also super picky about keeping my books in good condition. So, eating while reading a physical book is something I’m probably unlikely to do unless the snack doesn’t dirty my fingers. That being said, I do tend to snack some when reading on my Kindle or listening to an audiobook, especially audiobooks since it is easy to listen and munch without getting distracted. Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm, and is now being hosted at Meeghan Reads!

Cheddar Jalapeño Cheetos

One of my favorite chips of all time is the Cheddar Jalapeno Cheeto. I typically have several bags in my pantry at a time to make sure I don’t run out. These are quite messy, though, and leave a trail of orange dust everywhere. So, they are definitely only for eating while reading an ebook or listening to an audiobook.

Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar with Almonds

Who can say no to chocolate? Seriously. Then the almonds provide the perfect level of crunch alongside the deliciousness of the milk chocolate. This is a wonderful candy that is fairly easy to eat while reading as long as you set the book in a way that the pages can be turned one-handed.

Boxed Gummy Candy

As unhealthy as it is, I can easily down a box of these candies in one sitting without even noticing I’ve done it. My favorites are Hot Tamales, Mike & Ikes, Dots, and Swedish Fish. I also love Sour Patch Kids, but the dust on those can get everywhere if you’re not careful, which isn’t the best for reading a book. The rest of this list, though, are perfect for reading because they don’t really make a mess or melt on your fingers. So, there’s very little clean up required!

Popcorn

Popcorn is probably my favorite snack food ever. The saltiness mixed with the crunch makes for absolute perfection. I don’t usually eat it while reading a print book, though, because of the salt and butter, but I will occasionally eat it while reading an ebook or listening to an audiobook. I also have a tendency to drop popcorn everywhere… So, putting it near my physical books is probably not a safe choice, but I do it every now and then when I’m feeling brave. lol.

Fresh Fruit

At least one of my snacks had to be healthy, right? I love fresh fruit of all sorts, and there are plenty of options that don’t make a huge mess, which makes them perfect for reading. Grapes and blueberries are two of my favorites, and they are easy to snack on without endangering the book.

So, there you have it. My top 5 snacks for reading. What snacks do you like to enjoy while curled up with a good book? Let me know what they are down in the comments!

  1. Popcorn is such great one, I am very tempted to go make some right now lol. When reading
I tend to gravitate towards non-melty candies like Swedish Fish, if I choose to eat something.

  2. Hahaha. You went with one healthy snack. I went with one savoury snack. I’m also so jealous because I can’t eat popcorn any more (but I used to eat it like it was a main food group). Honestly it’s the best snack ever. Hope you had fun with this topic!! 🤤

  3. Popcorn is one of my go-to snacks and there’s nothing like a good bag of crisps! I’ve started eating both with chopsticks so that I don’t grease up or dirty my fingers and it’s a little frustrating sometimes since I’m so bad at using them but at least my books/Kindle are clean! 😂

    • That’s actually really smart! If I had the ability to use chopsticks (seriously…my dexterity/coordination is so bad I’ve never been able to work them without looking like a complete fool 😂), I totally would because it would keep my fingers (and books) clean while opening up a whole new world of reading snacks. 🙂

    • I didn’t even think about cookies, but I do love them. I probably wouldn’t eat them while reading a physical book, though, because of all the crumbs. Although for audiobooks and ebooks, they are definitely fair game!
