Top 5 Tuesday – Top 5 Drinks for Reading

Hello everyone! Welcome back for another Top 5 Tuesday! The prompt for today is my top 5 drinks for reading. In general, I’m pretty basic when it comes to what I drink. So, this is going to be a pretty boring list. lol. I detest tea with a passion. I don’t particularly like coffee that much either, but I’ll occasionally drink it if it has lots of sugary stuff in it. I also don’t really drink alcohol anymore. I’ve never really cared for the taste unless it is drowned out in some sort of delicious cocktail, and I only drink cocktails when I go out, which hasn’t happened in a couple of years at this point. After the cancer surgeries and treatments, I honestly just sort of lost interest in alcohol. So, it is not making this list either. What does that leave? Read on to find out! Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm, and is now being hosted at Meeghan Reads!

Dr Pepper

This is my all time favorite drink. I think I’ve imbibed more Dr Pepper in my lifetime than anything else, even water. It is truly amazing that my kidneys have not stopped functioning due to the amount of soda I drink, which should give you a clue as to what other types of drinks will be on this list. lol. I’ve gotten a little better about it in recent years since focusing more on my health, but it is still a go to drink of mine some of the time. I’ll drink it however it comes (hot, cold, with or without ice, in a can, bottle, or glass…it doesn’t matter).

Dr Pepper Zero Sugar

Yep. This one is Dr Pepper too! lol. This is a relatively recent addition to the Dr Pepper line-up that I’ve really come to love. It is probably the drink that I currently have the most since I’m trying to avoid the extra calories that come with all the sugar in regular Dr Pepper. My pantry is usually stocked with several cases at once, and in the past year it is what I’ve drunk the most while reading.

Bottled Water

Yes. I’m so basic that the only way to keep this list from being an endless variety of Dr Pepper was to put water on it. 😂 I’ve been attempting to drink more water in an effort to avoid killing my kidneys now that I’m getting older… I usually add some sort of fruity water enhancer to it because I’m not a huge fan of plain water. If I don’t have a can or bottle or cup of Dr Pepper with me, I’ll usually have a bottle of water.

Coca-Cola

Surprise! There’s more soda than just Dr Pepper on this list. While Dr Pepper is my favorite soda by far, I also really love an ice cold Coca-Cola. The bite of the acidic taste and carbonation combination is just really refreshing. So, every now and then, I’ll opt for one of these instead of a Dr Pepper. I know. I know. It’s blasphemy, but it happens. I think it is probably safe to just say that my favorite thing to drink is soda and call it a day.

Dr Pepper Shake from Whataburger

Just when you thought I was done with the Dr Pepper…think again! This is truly one of the most delicious things I have ever put in my mouth. Dr Pepper and ice cream is an unbeatable combination. It will probably take an hour for the Whataburger employees to make it, but the wait is worth it 100%. As a matter of fact, the wait just makes more down time for reading. 🙂

So, there you have it. My top 5 drinks for reading. The first draft was all different types of Dr Pepper, but I decided I needed to switch it up at least a little. You’re welcome. 😉 What drinks do you like to enjoy while curled up with a good book? Let me know what they are down in the comments!

  1. It’s been ages since I’ve had a Dr Pepper cos I can never seem to find it in Indonesia but I do love it and prefer it over any other soda! So so good (and now I have cravings lol)!

    • I don’t think I could live somewhere that didn’t have a steady supply. lol. I drink so much of it that I think my body would go into shock without it, which is really horrible. Sorry for giving you cravings!

  2. Dr Pepper is the best! When I met him, my husband was the educator at the Dr Pepper Museum in Waco, so we’re a Pepper family through and through. Points to you for knowing not to put the period after Dr!

    • It is my favorite drink! Working at the Dr Pepper Museum would definitely be one of my dream jobs. lol. So, that is really cool. It took a couple edits to make sure I got all the stray periods out of the post because they definitely popped up at first even though I know they shouldn’t be there. I hope I got them all. So, thanks for noticing the effort. 🙂

  3. OK, that’s it. I’m coming to the US to try a Dr Pepper Shake. I am so intrigued by this concept. We have spiders (which I think it called a … float?) but I feel like this is a whole new level. Hope you had fun with this week’s topic 💕
