Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

What did you read last?
This week’s reading has been mostly meh. I started with finishing off Rise of the Renegade Child, which was the bright spot of the week. Then I moved on to The Blood Traitor by Lynette Noni, and it was super disappointing. This trilogy has been really hit or miss for me, and this final book was definitely a miss. The plot just felt all over the place with a pointless quest that dragged on and on, and the main character was insufferable for most of it. Then I started Shadow of the Sith by Adam Christopher. This was not the Star Wars book I was looking for, and it was a bit of a disappointment too. There were some things I really liked and others that just came across as completely nonsensical. Look out for my review (hopefully tomorrow) for all my thoughts. Finally, I binged the audiobook of The Name of All Things hoping to find something to enjoy. Nope. That didn’t happen. I really liked the first book in the series, but this one didn’t really work for me. The overall story didn’t progress much until the very end and it mostly threw aside all the established characters that I liked, which was really frustrating. I also found the weird asides about horses and gender to be off-putting and incredibly repetitive. So, overall this hasn’t been the best week, and I just hope it doesn’t send me into a reading slump.
What was my favorite of the week? The only book that made it to four stars this week was Rise of the Renegade Child by Robert Roth. It was a fun sci-fi sequel with great world-building, tons of conspiracy, and lots of action.
What are you currently reading?
I’m finally starting Daughter of Redwinter today. I’ve seen lots of great things about it from other reviewers, and I’m hoping it will break my streak of disappointments. No pressure Ed McDonald. lol.
What will you read next?
I’m not entirely sure what I’ll read next. I have a couple ARCs that I need to get to, and I just downloaded the audiobook of Juniper & Thorn. So, one of them will probably be up next.

Fascinating, The Name of All Things was one of my favorite in the series (mostly because I like Janel), but I can understand the whiplash of almost completely jettisoning the characters in book one for an entire book.
Yeah. I liked Janel, but the entire time I just wanted the story to move forward. I found the first half of the book pretty dull, as well, but I enjoyed it more once more of the connections to the larger story became apparent. I also found the horse stuff weird and didn’t care for the repetitive lectures on gender using horse lingo. I liked the message of it all, but not really how it was delivered.
Oh no, I’m sorry you haven’t had a great reading week! But those to be read books definitely look promising. Especially Juniper & Thorn and Daughter of Redwinter. I absolutely love the art style on the book cover of Juniper & Thorn.
I’ve seen a lot of people enjoying Juniper and Thorn lately. What a bummer about the Lyons book. I am so excited to start that series soon!

Yeah. I’m definitely going to continue with the series, but I enjoyed book one more. It wasn’t a terrible book by any means. It just had some things that irked me and kept me from loving it as much as I wanted.
Ah, that’s a bummer. Although, I find that very common in the second book of a series, in my opinion! I hope you enjoy the next one more!

Sorry to hear it’s been a meh week of reading! Bummer to hear that the Prison Healer books haven’t been a hit for you. I’ve heard lots of good things about it and I recently got the first book so now I’m a little nervous to dive in! I hope you enjoy Daughter of Redwinter cos it looks awesome and (again) I’ve heard lots of great things. Hope it breaks the “meh” streak for you! Happy reading 🙂
I really liked certain aspects of the first two books even though I didn’t love them, but this last book was just a disappointing dud, in my opinion. Certain aspects of it felt rushed and others were unnecessarily drawn out. It also didn’t help that the quest that took up most of the book was pretty pointless. I’ve seen a lot of reviews praising it, though. So, I’m sure I’m in the minority. I am loving Daughter of Redwinter so far, and it is definitely living up to all the hype. So, I think the streak might be broken! 🙂
