WWW Wednesday (13) – August 3, 2022

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

I’ve had a rather slow start to August. I only finished two books in the last week. I listened to A Strange and Stubborn Endurance by Foz Meadows. Honestly, I was expecting to like this one a lot more than I did. It had so many elements that I love, including a slow-burn MM romance, political conspiracy, and murder mystery, but it just didn’t come together in a way I found very enjoyable. I’m not quite sure why, but I feel it has something to do with the pacing. It also seemed repetitive and a bit too long. However, I did really like how the author portrayed healing from sexual abuse, but definitely check all the trigger warnings to make sure it is something you want to read because there was a pretty graphic rape scene and lots of suicidality. I also read Babel this week, and I now have a favorite book of all time. I’m not going to say much more than that here, but my review will be up tomorrow if I can manage to put my feelings about this book into words.

What was my favorite of the week? Obviously, my favorite this week was Babel.

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently listening to Husband Material by Alexis Hall. I loved Boyfriend Material, and I’m enjoying the sequel so far. It has made me laugh out loud many times, and it was a great choice to lighten things up after the gravity of Babel. I’m also reading High Times in the Low Parliament by Kelly Robson. I’m not loving it so far, but I’m also not really that far into it yet. So, we’ll see if my opinion improves the further along I get.

What will you read next?

I know I’m beginning to sound like a broken record, but I REALLY need to get to The Jasmine Throne this week. I’m going to do it. I promise (hopefully). I also plan to read Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim.

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!

  1. OMG… Favorite of ALL time?! I really cannot wait to get it now!! I’m so glad you loved it. Six Crimson Cranes is a fast read and so good. Jasmine Throne is excellent! I hope you get to them and enjoy them!!

    My WWW!

    • Thanks! Yeah. I REALLY LOVED Babel. I’ve never had a favorite book, but I think Babel has clenched the title. I doubt it will be everyone’s cup of tea because it was slow at times and very focused on character development in the first half, but there was just so much about it that I enjoyed. I hope you love it when you read it!

      • That’s awesome!! Oh, I’m sure it wont fit with everyone. I have kind of expected that and I’m hoping being aware doesn’t take away from my enjoyment. I love her writing though so I’m really excited. Thank you, I hope so too!

    • I hope you love it as much as I did! I’ve never had an all-time favorite book (Jade Legacy came really close), but this one just blew me away. I’m trying to write my review now, and I’ve just been stuck on it because I can’t find the words for all the reasons I loved it.

I finished SCC and loved it! I’m about halfway through The Jasmine Throne, and I really like it. It definitely feels its length, though.
