WWW Wednesday (14) – August 10, 2022

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

I’ve picked up the pace a bit compared to last week and finished four books. High Times in the Low Parliament by Kelly Robson was a strange, little book. It was quirky and sort of fun at times, but the point of it all was a bit lost on me. I listened to Husband Material by Alexis Hall on the day it was released. I loved Boyfriend Material, and I really enjoyed this one too. I could definitely relate to having to survive ‘wedding season,’ and the character development felt like a logical extension of the growth from the first book. Although, I hated seeing the boys fight. There was plenty of humor, though, and the ending didn’t go the way I expected it would. I FINALLY read The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri. I liked it a lot. The world-building was fascinating, and the characters had lots of depth and interesting arcs. I didn’t love the romance element as much as I’ve seen some others enjoy it, but it wasn’t terrible. My only complaint is that it felt like it took forever for the story to get anywhere, but once it did I was hooked. I have high hopes for the sequel now that a lot of the background has been set. Finally, I read Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim. I loved this book so much. The characters were so vibrant, and the romance was really cute. The plot and world-building were fascinating and fast-paced, and I never wanted to put this one down.

What was my favorite of the week? It is a tie between Husband Material and Six Crimson Cranes. I loved both of these books so much.

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently listening to Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare. I’ve been wanting to catch up on the Shadowhunter books for so long. I finally took the plunge. I’m enjoying this one so far, but there’s been a lot of info-dumping of general Shadowhunter info that I already know. So, it is slow going at the moment. I’ve also read approximately half of The Dragon’s Promise so far, and I’m really enjoying it. It picks up right where Six Crimson Cranes left off, and I’ve loved the adventure with the dragons and all the time spent with Seryu.

What will you read next?

I plan to focus on my Orbit ARCs first this week by reading The Oleander Sword and Longshadow. Hopefully I’ll get to some other books this week, as well, but we’ll see.

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Six Crimson Cranes is so good! In the middle of Dragon’s Promise now and I’m also enjoying it! I am hoping to get a chunk of Oleander done over the next couple of days. I read Longshadow and didn’t love it. It was the worst of the three for me but I hope you enjoy it more than I did!!

  2. SCC is one of my favourites and I’m reading the Dragon’s Promise right now! I’m glad to see that you enjoyed it 😃 I definitely echo your sentiments about The Jasmine Throne. The world-building was fantastic but it really moved at a plodding pace. I’m quite excited for the sequel though and I hope that you enjoy it! Happy reading 🙂
