WWW Wednesday (28) – November 16, 2022

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

I’ve been trying to avoid a reading slump the last couple of weeks, and it appears I’ve been successful. 🙂 I switched things up a bit by including lots of audio books, a graphic novel, and a short story. The change has helped immensely. I only read one physical book this week, The Lost Book of the White. I enjoyed being back with Alec and Magnus again, but the Shadowhunter formula is beginning to feel a bit stale. I was also somewhat disappointed that Alec and Magnus weren’t on an adventure by themselves. The whole TMI crew was there again, and I found it to be a distraction from the core relationship. I listened to Trailer Park Trickster and thought it was even better than the first book. The writing seemed to have improved since book one, and I enjoyed getting more background on the Binders, as well as the different realms of magical creatures. The only thing I didn’t like was having Vic and Adam separated for almost the whole novel. I wanted to see their relationship grow, but all they did was fight for the little time they were together in this one. I also finally got around to reading the first volume of Lore Olympus. I enjoyed it a lot and really liked the style of the art. I wasn’t expecting to get the stories of other gods beyond Hades and Persephone, but I like that tidbits about the others are sprinkled into the main story. The Man and the Crow was a gay witchy short story that left me in love with the main characters and wanting more. It is less than 30 pages, but it definitely packs a punch. Finally, I listened to Half Bad and Half Wild. I LOVE The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself on Netflix, and these are the books the adaptation was based on. The stories differ considerably, but the books are good… just not as good as the show. 🙂 I swear to ALL THE GODS if the show does to Annalise and Nathan what the end of Half Wild did, I will riot.

What was my favorite of the week? My favorite this week was Half Bad, but only because I really loved the show. lol. This was a really good week for me, and everything was either 4 or 5 stars.

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently reading Heart of the Sun Warrior. I’m enjoying it so far, but I am a bit annoyed that the love triangle is back so quickly, especially given the massive betrayals of one of the participants. I was just shaking my head and thinking… girl, you can do better. lol. I mean technically she had already done better. She’s betrothed to the prince of the celestial kingdom for goodness sake. I’m also listening to Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right. I’ve only finished the first chapter, but it is already eye-opening and enraging.

What will you read next?

I still need to get to some ARCs, including The Gentleman’s Book of Vices, and I will probably finish listening to the final book in the Half Bad trilogy, Half Lost.

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!

  1. LOL, I love your reaction to the love triangle in the Celestial Kingdoms books cos I am so anti-love triangle and the first book gave such focus to it that it pulled me away from the rest of the story. After that “second” betrayal, I honestly wanted her to just be like “okay, peace out boys cos I’m on me own!” and it would’ve been so much better! No? Just me? 😂 Haha. I hope you enjoy your reads, Chris!

  2. I’m halfway into Heart of the Sun Warrior right now… I actually like the plot better but Omg… the love triangle is driving me insane! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Love Lore Olympus! Just got the most recent volume and need to read it!
