WWW Wednesday (29) – November 23, 2022

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

Despite spending quite a lot of time this week widening my social media reach on Mastodon (@biblionerdrflxn@mastodon.lol) and Hive (@biblionerdrflxn), I managed to finish four books. Heart of the Sun Warrior was a good conclusion to the Celestial Kingdom duology. The writing was beautiful, and the plot and additions to the world-building were interesting. You can read all my thoughts in my review. Dark Money is a book every single person in the United States should be required to read. It is scary how much big money has come to influence our politics, and this book paints a well-researched picture of just how dire things have become and how we got here. I also finished Half Lost, and the ending left me FURIOUS. I don’t even want to talk about it other than to say just watch the show instead. Finally, I read the funny and a bit raunchy The Gentleman’s Book of Vices. It’s a gay romcom set in late-1800’s London, and I enjoyed every minute of reading it. I’ll have a review of it posted soon after the holiday.

What was my favorite of the week? My favorite this week was Dark Money because of how important its message was. It was also well-written and illustrated the author had done her homework.

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently about halfway through both Ledge and The Last Graduate. I’m not quite sure what I think about Ledge yet. The setting is interesting, and the dynamic between the main characters is fun to follow. The writing feels a bit basic, though, and some of the dialogue has made me cringe. There are also some plot points that just don’t really make sense to me, but that might change before I’m finished with it. I’m enjoying The Last Graduate so far. The setting is just so fascinating, and I’m constantly intrigued by the workings of this hellish school.

What will you read next?

Next, I plan to read Convergence, which I’m very excited about. I picked it up from B&N yesterday so that I can start it ASAP. I also plan to try to get to Innate Magic and Kings Rising if the busy holiday week permits.

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Novik is an author that I DNF’d the first book I picked up by her. I believe it’s book 1 in the series you are reading. Could have been my mood but I might go back one day!

    • The thing I like most about it is the setting. The writing and characters are okay, but I just love the idea of a killer school where the kids run free unsupervised. It’s sort of like The Hunger Games, school edition + magic. Lol

  2. The Gentleman’s Book of Vices looks like it’d be a fun read! I’ll look out for your review to decide if I should pick it up or not but I probs will end up doing so anyway. 😂 I still need to read Deadly Education and it’s got so many mixed reviews but I’m glad to see you’re enjoying the series so far. I hope you enjoy this holiday and have a great week of reading ahead!
