Hello everyone! The prompt for today is the top 5 bookish resolutions for 2023. I enjoy setting goals. So, this topic was a lot of fun to think about, and I believe I’ve come up with some things I can achieve this year. Goodreads Challenge
As always, I’ve set a Goodreads Challenge for the number of books I’d like to read this year. I’ve kept the same number as the last couple of years, 100 books, because I’m pretty sure I can reach it. What can I say? I enjoy having at least one goal I know I will reach. lol.
NetGalley Ratio & Reviews
Last year I finally crossed the magical 80% threshold. So, this year’s goal will be to keep my feedback ratio above 80% as much as possible and end the year with at least 81% to show some improvement. 🙂 I’d also like to reach 150 reviews completed by the end of the year, which should be doable even if my pace slows down a bit. Last year I reviewed over 100 books, but I don’t think I want to push myself that hard with ARCs this year.
Finish Five Series
Last year I set out to complete five series, and it actually went pretty well. I was one book shy of reading all the books. So, I think I will use that goal again this year for five new series. Here are the ones I’m going to try to finish by the end of the year:
- A Chorus of Dragons by Jenn Lyons
- Timekeeper by Tara Sim
- The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang
- A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
- The Magicians by Lev Grossman
Participate in Three Challenges
Notice that the title of this goal is *participate* and not *complete* three challenges. If I do complete them, that’s even better, but I’m looking forward to just seeing how many of the prompts I can actually get done before the end of the year.
The 2023 POPSUGAR Reading Challenge
I’ve never done this challenge before even though I saw it everywhere at the beginning of last year. The prompts look fun, and I’m hoping it will help push me to read outside of my usual genres a bit. For more information about the challenge, head over to POPSUGAR’s website.
The Year-Long Scavenger Hunt
Jordyn @ Birdie’s Book Nook has organized a year-long scavenger hunt with 31 prompts. The goal is to find books that fit the different prompts until you are able to fill all 31 of them. If you finish before the end of the year, start over and see how many times you can collect them all. 🙂 This sounds super fun and is geared towards SFF books, which I love.
Magical Readathon: Adventure in Aeldia
I loved participating in both terms of the Magical Readathon last year and can’t wait to continue to study at the academy in April. So, my character, Padwin, and I will be off on a year-long adventure through Aeldia to keep us occupied until school starts. This challenge allows you to choose your own adventure by picking between two prompts and continues throughout the year at a pace of one book per month. Here are all the prompt choices:
Make Some Progress on My Backlog
I know several different bloggers have official challenges for clearing out the backlist. That just feels a bit too formal for me, and I find the idea of ‘clearing the backlist’ to be super stressful since I’m technically always adding to it. So, instead I’m just going to set the simple goal of having at least 25% of my reading this year be from my owned TBR purchased prior to 2023.

Magical Readathon is my favorite thing to participate in! Good luck with all of these. 100 arcs in one year is a lot!! Very impressive but don’t blame you for wanting to slow down there. Definitely, going to be doing that myself with arcs this year.
Thank you! I love Magical Readathon, and this adventure seems like a pretty low stakes way to have fun with it all year. I’m definitely HOPING to slow down on ARCs this year, but if my NetGalley shelf is any indication, I probably won’t be. lol.
Haha!!! Oh, no!! Already?! I know, I have a couple that I’ve gotten from Orbit and I always forget about those because they are not on my Netgalley shelf. I need to go through and figure out when those are due. Regardless, it’s just so hard to not hit that request button!
Yeah. I’m already in the hole on NetGalley. I think I have somewhere around 30 2023 ARCs so far (not counting the physical ones from Orbit). At least they are spread out between now and November. I’m trying to avoid the situation I fell into last year with 10 books that all came out in August. That was a nightmare.
Wow!!! That’s a lot! Through November?! I think my latest one is July. I have 7 right now. Reading 1 currently and another this weekend. Not counting Orbit, of course. So, this is the least I’ve had in a long time! I actually got approved for one this morning. haha. Oh yes, My August last year. had 8 arcs and it killed me. I was so done after that and was behind the rest of the year!
Oooo a new blog banner!!! Love it. I have faith you’ll be able to reach that 100-book goal, no problem. Those challenges look fun, but, for now, I’ve decided to stick to super simple ones that help me with my goal of reading from my physical backlist. Generally I find challenges where I have to pick a book to fit a prompt a little stressful…that said, I’ll probably also do Trope-ical Readathon, too.
Thanks! I’ve been working on the banner for a while because I wanted something a little less cartoonish, but I’m still not totally in love with it. So, it might change again. 🤷‍♂️ The only reason the challenges don’t stress me out is because I don’t really plan around them, for the most part. The last time I did Trope-ical Readathon I didn’t even bother to make a TBR. I mostly just filled in the prompts with the books I was already planning to read once I read them and knew what tropes fit. That’s what I plan to do with these too.
I love how differently we approach these challenges, haha. The last Trope-ical Readathon I really made an effort to try and pick out books ahead of time that fit the prompts (based on what books I had available). But I think I’ll take your approach this year since I want to go into it with less (self-induced) pressure.
I did it that way the first time, but I hated the constraint it put on my reading. I also don’t know all the tropes in a book until I read it. So, it just made more sense to me to fill it in as I went. I usually only have to find a few books at the end of the month to fill in whatever gaps weren’t already in my reading, and that’s a lot less stressful than trying to plan the whole month and then stick to it.

Thank you! I’m excited to see how well I can do. I need to sit down and figure out how many I’ve already found. I’m blasting through books right now, but I haven’t really taken the time yet to apply them to the challenges yet. I need to do it before I start forgetting specifics…
