What did you read last?

Timekeeper by Tara Sim – 4⭐ – This book wasn’t really anything like I expected it to be. It ended up being mostly a somewhat instalove forbidden YA romance between a young mechanic and a clock-tower, or rather the spirit of the clock-tower. I loved the vibes of the alternate world, though, and am curious to learn more about the world-building in the rest of the series. The story seemed to meander and drag a bit during the middle, but I liked the mystery surrounding what was happening to the clocks and the characterization of the protagonist and his struggle with PTSD. I’ll definitely be moving on to the next book soon!

Nick and Charlie by Alice Oseman – 4⭐ – This novella was the first prose work of Oseman’s I’ve read. The writing was fine, and it was fun to read another story with Nick and Charlie even if the boys were fighting through most of it. The characterizations were consistent with the graphic novels, and I loved the illustrations in this edition alongside the story. I definitely think fans of Heartstopper should read it!

The Sapphire Altar by David Dalglish – 3⭐ – I’m not going to spend a whole lot of time on this one since you can read my thoughts in my review. There were things I liked about it, such as certain character arcs, amazing fight scenes, and the themes explored, but overall it was a bit of a letdown after how much I liked the first book.

The Battle of Jedha by George Mann – ??? ⭐ – I was so excited for this audio drama, but it just didn’t hold my interest. The production was fantastic, and the full cast was great. I just think this format isn’t really for me. So, much has to be accomplished through the dialogue because there aren’t any descriptions like in a book/audiobook. You only get what the characters say. So, I’m withholding final judgment on this one until I can get my hands on a copy of the script next month and see what I think reading it in that format.

The Rules and Regulations For Mediating Myths & Magic by F.T. Lukens – 5+⭐- I absolutely ADORED this book. It was sweet and funny and full of adventure, just like every other F.T. Lukens book I’ve read so far. I did not want to stop listening to it, and the narrator did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life. The bi rep was perfect, and this is another book that I wish existed when I was in high school. It is probably my favorite YA book EVER, which is the highest praise I can give.

Olympic Enemies by Rebecca J Caffer – 3⭐- This was a cute queer sports romance centered around the British Olympic gymnastics team. It had so many of my favorite tropes, including enemies to lovers and forced proximity, but the writing and pacing were a bit rough. I still enjoyed it, though, and it made for a good, quick palette cleanser that was easy to read.

What was my favorite of the week? Hands down it was The Rules and Regulations for Mediating Myths & Magic. I can’t say enough good things about it, and it will definitely be a book I revisit again in the future.

What are you currently reading?

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas – I’m finally diving into this series. I have no idea if I will like it, but we’ll see. I’ve heard both good and terrible things about it, and I’m intrigued. lol. It’s fine so far, and I’m curious to see what is going on with these faeries. I’ll report back with my thoughts once I’m finished.

Bisexual Men Exist by Vaneet Mehta – This is a great book so far that covers a range of topics about bisexual men. The writing is a bit more conversational than I usually like, but it’s not bad. I also really like that it includes stories from lots of bi men in addition to the author.

Monster of the Week by F.T. Lukens – I couldn’t wait to jump into this sequel and started listening to it as soon as I finished the first book. I’m loving it so far and will probably have it finished before the day is over.

What will you read next?

I plan to read a mix off my shelf, an ARC, and a new release from the library. I’ve been looking forward to all three of these. So, I’m pretty excited!
