WWW Wednesday (41) – February 15, 2023

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen by KJ Charles – 4.75 ⭐ – This was the perfect combination of romance and roguish action! I loved the characters SO MUCH, and I will be reading much more KJ Charles in the future. See all my thoughts in my review.

The Tyranny of Faith by Richard Swan – 4.5⭐ – While I didn’t love this one quite as much as the first book, this was a fairly solid sequel. I loved the attention to world-building and getting more background information about the characters and the society. There were some mind-blowing action sequences, as well, that were equal parts awe-inspiring and horrifying. I wouldn’t classify this as an easy read, and it tackles some heavy, yet timely and important, themes with its beautiful prose, engaging characters, and fascinating story. See all my thoughts in my review.

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan – 4⭐ – I’ve wanted to read these books for years, and I’ve finally taken the plunge. I enjoyed it a lot. The use of myth was creative, and the characters felt well-realized and age-appropriate. I’ll definitely be continuing the series.

Glitterland by Alexis Hall – 4.75⭐ – I’m already a pretty huge fan of Alexis Hall. So, my thoughts on this one are probably a bit biased. lol. I didn’t really know what to expect going into this one, but it had so much of Hall’s wit and charm despite being an earlier work. The mental health rep of bipolar disorder and anxiety/panic was intense and incredibly moving. I loved getting to see Ash learn to see himself as something more than broken and found the overall narrative to be quite hopeful despite being dark at times. Also, the sex was hot, even if it was used an avoidance mechanism by the main character. 🙂

Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett – 4.75⭐ – This book was so damn delightful. I loved that it was written in journal entries. The characters were hilarious. Emily, with her devotion to research and aversion to all human interaction, was a treat to read, and I loved seeing her grow and develop such a wonderful community of friends after starting out such a curmudgeon. Bambleby often left me laughing out loud, and his dynamic with Emily was adorable. I think I’d classify this as cozy academia, which was a thing I didn’t know I needed until reading this book. I’m already eagerly anticipating the next book! Check out Jordyn’s review for more detailed thoughts on this one.

What was my favorite of the week? It is a three-way tie between The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen, Glitterland, and Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries. They were all so good. I cannot decide…

What are you currently reading?

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas (52%) – I’m still working on my month-long buddy read with Celeste. I love the teasing dynamic between Rhys and Feyre. I’m also enjoying seeing Feyre learn about using all her new powers.

Prince of the Sorrows by Kellen Graves (33%) – I haven’t read any of this one since last week. It might end up being my first DNF of the year, but I’m going to try to read at least a little more of it today before deciding what to do.

The Tethered Mage by Melissa Caruso (6%) – I just started listening to this one and don’t really have an opinion so far. The magic and society seem interesting, though.

What will you read next?

These three books are the most likely possibility. The Foxglove King comes out soon. So, I need to get to my ARC. The prequel and sequel of The Priory of the Orange Tree and The Unbroken come out super soon, as well, which means I really need to read them…

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!

    • You’re welcome! Thank you for shouting about the book. Before your review, I had planned to skip it, but I’m so glad I didn’t. I’m a couple chapters into the Foxglove King now, and I’m definitely intrigued by it, as well.

  1. So…. I’m over half way in Tyranny of Faith. It’s not too bad so far except that it’s giving me nightmares. 😂 The Muphraab is so scary and such a detailed description that he has now haunted my dream last night. Haha! I need to get my hands on Emily Wilde’s book!

  2. Wow, it looks like you had such a great reading week! 😍 I can’t wait to start my read of Emily Wilde although I’ve been postponing it until I’m in a better headspace for reading and hopefully, that’ll be soon cos I miss reading, lol! I’m also ridiculously excited to get my hands on Charles’ book cos I’m a huge fan of her books. I hope you continue enjoying your current reads and whatever you decide to pick up next 😃
