Today I’m participating in Top Ten Tuesday, which was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each week there is a new theme/topic, and participants choose ten books that fit it.
This week’s theme is Reasons Why I’m Thankful for Books. I thought it would be difficult to come up with ten reasons for this list, but it was surprisingly easy. Books bring an immeasurable amount of joy into my life, and I’m incredibly grateful to live in a place and time where they are so easily accessible. Here’s all the reasons I thought of:
I’m thankful for…
All the new friends I’ve made from reading and blogging about books
The escapism books provide
The positive impact books have on my mental health
The opportunity to learn new things from books
The hours and hours of entertainment books have given me
The way books promote empathy and understanding by allowing the practice of perspective-taking
How much books have taught me about myself
The way books with representation that is consistent with my experiences make me feel less alone
Books providing the means to visit places I’ll likely never see and experience tons of new things from the comfort of my couch
The absolute joy of entering a new bookstore and unearthing an adventure I never knew I needed
What reasons make you thankful for books? Let me know down in the comments! I hope everyone celebrating this week has a wonderful holiday.
I love visiting bookstores, even when I don’t have a dime to spend!
Yes to all of these. Even the one about representation as there a lot more books about women of my age around now than there used to be. Books are just awesome.
Ooh, yeah, I’m thankful for how much books have taught me about myself as well! Great list, Chris 🙂 Hope you’re doing okay!
I love the escapism of books.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
It’s been years since I went to a physical bookstore, but I do miss the joy of walking in there and knowing that I can buy ANYTHING. There are so many possibilities.
Great list! I hope you have the best Thanksgiving!
Wonderful reasons! I especially love the fostering of empathy and understanding that you mentioned. That is so important, especially in such a divisive world. I’m very thankful for that as well.
Happy TTT!
