What did you read last?

It’s been a pretty great week! I wasn’t sure that I’d be able to participate in this meme today because I’ve been busy doing some continuing education. Thankfully, I’ve managed it with only a few hours to spare. 🙂 Here is a look at the books I’ve finished in the last week:

Sunsplitter by S.A. MacLean (4.5⭐) – This was such a great conclusion to this duology. It felt like the logical next step for Fi and Antal’s relationship, and I loved getting to experience so much more of daeyari society. Check out my review for all of my thoughts!

International Relations by Zac Hammett (3.5⭐) – This was a cute romance with a fun premise. It just needed a bit more depth and better pacing. Check out all of my thoughts in my review!

Doctor Who: Circuit Breaker: The Deadliest Weapon by Steve Lyons (4⭐) – This was another good entry of this multimedia event. It was surprisingly self-contained with only a short segment at the end tying into the main event. I did find it odd that this Doctor knew the Cybermen but not the Daleks, though. The exploration of how this Doctor started questioning her work with the Division was really fascinating. This event has made me even more curious about the history of the Fugitive Doctor, and I’m so glad that her Doctor is getting some time to shine.

Embers of Analon by Paul Michael Winters (3.75⭐) – This book was a solid new adult romantasy. The world was interesting, and the pacing of the plot was brisk and kept me engaged. The relationship was a bit too instalove for me, but the twists and turns and secrets kept things interesting for the main couple. I’ll definitely be picking up the sequel to see where things go next.

What are you currently reading?

All We Have Is Time by Amy Tordoff (85%) – This romance between an immortal and a time traveler has been pretty good so far. It’s really made me think about what it means to truly live life to the fullest. I’m fairly certain that the ending will have me sobbing before it’s all said and done, but we’ll see.

A Trade of Blood by Robert Jackson Bennett (15%) – I was sucked back into this world immediately. Ana and Din are such fascinating characters, and their case in this book is so strange from the start. I’m curious to see how the story plays out.

Legacy by Madeleine Roux (26%) – I wasn’t expecting Leia and Rey to be so at odds in this book, but I guess it does makes sense. They’re master/apprentice relationship is definitely off to a rocky start, and I’m not sure I like how gloomy, stubborn, and impatient Rey is so far. That doesn’t mean her acting that way doesn’t make sense or isn’t a valid response to her circumstances. I just expected her to be more hopeful. 🤷‍♂️

Fence Book One by C.S. Pacat & Johanna the Mad (74%) – It’s cool that these comics are being collected into longer books. I’ve been wanting to read them since I read the novelization a few years ago. I’ve been surprised at the lack of romance so far, but I’m really enjoying all of the fencing content. The characters are all pretty great, and I’m loving the different rivalries.

What will you read next?

My next ARC read will be The Burn Line, which is my Camp NetGalley pick. My next audiobook will be The Lie That Binds Them, which is an overdue ARC that I’m doing on borrowed audio to try to get caught up. Finally, my next physical read will be Prince of Swords, which is the follow-up to one of my reads from last month (Arcana Academy).
