What did you read last?
It’s been a month since I participated in WWW Wednesday. Where has the time gone? I swear it feels like I just wrote one of these posts a couple of weeks ago. Since it’s been so long, I’m going to focus on the books I’ve finished in the last week:
Thoughts Be Bloody by Auden Patrick (3.75⭐) – This was a solid dark academia fantasy. The writing could be confusing at times, but it worked for the story and was sort of the point. So, I can’t complain too much. lol. You can find all of my thoughts in my review.
The One-Night Heist by C. Rochelle (3.5⭐) – I liked this story and the larger world it set up. I do wish it had focused a bit more on the heist itself, though. It spent more time on the aftermath instead of the fun planning and execution bits. The story was also very character-focused, which was fine just not what I expected. The romance was a bit too insta-obsessive for my taste, but I’m sure people who are into that dynamic will enjoy it. I don’t mind reading about a relationship where the characters are obsessed with each other. It just needs to feel earned, which was lacking here.
The Radiant King by David Dalglish (???⭐) – I haven’t settled on a rating for this one yet because I still need to write the review. The toxic family dynamic and the exploration of the consequences of being immortal were both really great. I ended up liking this one more than I thought I would after seeing the mixed reviews. Hopefully, I’ll have my review ready sometime in the next couple of days.
What are you currently reading?
The Fury of the Gods by John Gwynne (10%) – I finally picked up this book. It’s been on my shelves for a couple of years, and I just finally decided it was time. lol. Thank goodness for the recap at the start of the book. I’d have been lost without it. I am surprised by how quickly I’ve sunk back into the story. Gwynne is such a masterful storyteller, and I can’t wait to see how this final installment of the trilogy ends. I have no doubt it will hurt.
A Conspiracy of Truths by Alexandra Rowland (69%) – This is another book that has been on my shelves, both audio and physical, forever. Audio works so well for the format of this story, and I definitely recommend it. It’s a story about stories told from the POV of a cantankerous old storyteller who just so happens to find himself thrown in jail for suspicion of being a witch. In the course of freeing himself, he manages to destroy an entire kingdom with just his stories, and I have been completely enthralled while listening to him tell the tale of how it happened. This is my third? time reading a book by Rowland, and I’ve enjoyed them all so far.
Isn’t He Romantic by Adib Khorram (2%) – I’ve only just started this one. So, I don’t have much of an opinion on it yet. 🙂
What will you read next?
My next eARC read will be The Darkness Bites Back. My next audiobook (& also an overdue ARC) will be Bright and Broken Things, which is an Audible borrow. Finally, my next physical read will be The Kaleidoscope, which is the next entry in the Doctor Who Circuit Breaker story that I need to read.
