WWW Wednesday (51) – April 26, 2023

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater – 4.75⭐ – I am officially obsessed with this series. I have been listening to the audiobooks from the library, but I broke down and bought the entire series in hardback because I’m loving them so much. The characters are vivid and nuanced, and the magical elements are just so fascinating. The rest of these books have become priority reads for me because I just need to know what happens next.

Lie With Me by Philippe Besson – 5⭐ – I decided to swap in this short book for my 12 month challenge pick because April is almost over. This was a compelling and emotional story about growing up queer in the 80’s and the effects of not being able to hold on to love because of the expectations of society. The story and ending were sad, but the prose and story were beautiful.

Dragonfall by L. R. Lam – 3.25⭐ – Unfortunately, this one was just okay. I expected to love it way more than I did. The writing and world-building just didn’t work for me, but I did love the premise and the characters. So, it was a bit of a mixed bag. See all my thoughts in my review.

Happy Place by Emily Henry – 5⭐ – My hold of the audiobook arrived at midnight yesterday, and I finished it in less than a day. I LOVED this book. I’ve loved all of Henry’s books, but I really related to these characters and their inferiority complexes. lol. I also loved the focus on friendship in this one. I found it to be just as important as the romance, and it really captured the feelings attached to watching your friendships drift and change as you enter your late 20’s and early 30’s. I don’t buy a ton of adult romance because I never really have a desire to re-read most of them, but I’ll be picking up the hardback of this one because I already want to re-read it.

Bridesmates by Sydney Smith – 3.75⭐ – This was a cute second chance MM romance. I just wish it had been longer. I didn’t really buy into how deep their feelings were for each other based on the slim amount of information on their past interactions. It was cute and short, though. So, I’ll definitely be checking out some of the author’s longer stuff since it is included for free with my Audible membership.

What was my favorite of the week? There were several this week that I really enjoyed, but it has to be Happy Place. I devoured this book and loved every minute.

What are you currently reading?

The Dragon Republic by R. F. Kuang (60%) – This book is so brutal. OMG. I feel like I’m walking on eggshells the entire time I’m reading it just waiting for the other shoe to drop. I thought I had a handle on where the story might be going, but there was just a huge curve ball that sort of changed everything. I’m curious to see how it impacts what happens next.

A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas (9%) – I just started this one, but I’m liking how it is tackling the re-building and PTSD issues after the major battle at the end of the trilogy. A lot of fantasy skips over this part. So, it is nice to see. Also, it is good to know Rhys and Feyre joined the mile high club. lol.

What will you read next?

I didn’t get to any of the books I was planning to read because Dragonfall took me forever to get through. So, two of the ones from last week are still here, and I’ve swapped Magic’s Pawn for Lords of Uncreation because of its impending release date.

Song of Silver, Flame Like Night by Amelie Wen Zhao, Infinity Gate by M.R. Carey, Lords of Uncreation by Adrian Tchaikovsky

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Okay, I’m now at 51% in our buddy read but CURVE BALL? I CAN’T. I’m scared. HELP 😭 I’m gonna keep reading now and hopefully catch up to you. Glad to see you loved Emily Henry’s book so much as well! I still haven’t read any of her books (I know, what am I doing) but I hope to love them as much as everyone else seems to. And LOL at that mile high club comment! 😂 Happy reading!
