Manga Monday – On or Off Vols. 3 & 4

It has been a few months since I’ve talked about any manga, and I just finished the fourth volume of On or Off. So, this feels like the perfect time to discuss my thoughts on the third and fourth volume. If you’d like to see what I thought about the first two volumes, you can read them here. ***There are some spoilers in these discussions. So, read on at your own risk.***

In this volume, which covers chapters five and six of the webcomic, things were in a weird in-between place. At the end of Vol. 2, Director Kang told Ahn that the two of them couldn’t be together. This led to more tense and hilarious encounters around the office, especially once Ahn’s face is plastered all over town as the model for their app’s promotional material. Faced with Ahn’s face everywhere (see what I did there? 😉) and some fun meddling from Ahn’s friends and the secretary, Director Kang falls into a deeper obsession with Ahn. Will Director Kang decide to throw caution to the wind and be together with him despite his better judgment?

This was another fun and hilarious installment. I liked that the couple didn’t just jump back together quickly but had to work for it over the course of the entire volume. Since they were trying to avoid acting on their feelings, there wasn’t as much graphic sex in this one, but there was some steamy solo action. I also really enjoyed having Ahn’s team and the secretary being heavily involved in the shenanigans. They are a hilarious bunch and add so much fun to the story.

Director Kang and Ahn are finally a couple! This volume covered chapters seven and eight of the webcomic. Chapter seven was pretty much entirely the two of them celebrating their new relationship status. By celebrating, I mean having lots and lots of sex. lol. In the next chapter, they finally go back to work and try to hide their relationship. They quickly realize they’re pretty bad at it, especially Ahn. The project eventually wraps up, and their business relationship finally ends, which means no more need to pretend. Everything will be perfect now that they can be together without constraints. Right? …Right?!

This volume was steamy. Like… The kind of steamy where you’ll need a cold shower or an ice bath to calm down after reading it. 😳🥵😈 Things settled down a bit in the second half, and the focus returned more to the hilarity of office shenanigans. Well. Except for the foray into car sex. What can I say? There was a lot of sex in this volume, and it was hot. There was plenty of humor too, though. So, if that sounds like your cup of tea, pick up this series because at its core it centers hot gay (uncensored) sex and awkwardly funny office dynamics. It commits to those components fully and does them really well, especially in this volume. That cliffhanger has me shaking, too, especially since there is no release date yet for the next volume.

Have you read the On or Off series? Let me know what you think down in the comments! I’d also love to hear any recommendations of other manga, BL or otherwise, that you’ve enjoyed.
