WWW Wednesday (74) – December 6, 2023

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

Book of Night by Holly Black – 3.5⭐ – After all the negative reviews I’ve seen of this book, I expected it to be one of the most awful things I’ve ever read. lol. It did take a bit to get going, but the story had a lot going for it. The main character was A MESS. She was a “reformed” criminal that was just doing her best to get by. I liked how gritty she was, and I enjoyed following her POV. The magic was also incredibly fascinating, and the ending left me wanting more. Some of the plot felt a bit jarring and hard to follow at times, but this was by far not the worst book I’ve ever read. I’m hopeful that the next book can provide even more interesting depth to the characters and world.

The Haunting Scent of Poppies by Victoria Williamson (4⭐) and All the Hidden Paths by Foz Meadows (4.25⭐) – I’ve reviewed both of these this week, and I don’t see the point of rehashing such recent thoughts. So, check out my reviews of each by clicking the titles if you’d like to learn more about them.

What are you currently reading?

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins (79%) – I’ve slowly been working on this one for a while now, and the story of Coriolanus has fascinated me. It is a bit weird to see him so humanized when he’s always been the evil villain in the other stories. I definitely have a better understanding of how the war set him up to go down that path, but his desire for power and control ultimately pushed him down it. I’m looking forward to seeing how it all ends, hopefully today.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas (53%) – I’ve made no progress on this one in the last month… I’ve just been super focused on ARCs and library reads. I’m hoping to read some more of it in the next week, but we’ll see.

Legacy of the Brightwash by Krystle Matar (13%) – I just started this one, and I’m definitely intrigued. I’ve seen lots of people raving about this book and am excited to see where the story goes.

What will you read next?

The Eye of Darkness by George Mann, Fellow Travelers by Thomas Mallon, Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!
