Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?
What did you read last?
For the first time in a while, I managed to finish three books this week. I’m well on my way to finishing up my TBR for this month. 🙂
Breath of the Dragon by Shannon Lee & Fonda Lee – 4.5⭐– This was an excellent story that individuals who enjoy martial arts and coming-of-age stories will absolutely love. You can see all of my thoughts in my review!
Heavenly Tyrant by Xiran Jay Zhao – 2.75⭐ – This one just didn’t work for me. The social commentary was way too preachy, and the characters and relationships I loved in the first book got sidelined in this one. The pacing was off, too, and the book felt way too long. You can find all of my thoughts in my review.
Five Broken Blades by Mai Corland – 3.5⭐– The writing in this one was pretty juvenile, and the dialogue was cringey at times. The plot was pretty straightforward until the end, and I saw the twist coming from a mile away. The characters also all felt like extremely horny caricatures and some of the POVs had repetitive internal monologue, especially Royo. All that being said, I had a lot of fun reading this book. The pacing kept me engaged, and the multiple POVs were balanced really well. I did like the characters, too, despite my qualms. They were fun to follow, and I did find the plot entertaining.

What are you currently reading?
Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros (20%) – It is finally here! I’m not going to say anything about it because I don’t want to spoil anything, even with a general reaction. I’m just so excited to finally see what happens next. I’ll probably end up finishing this one tomorrow. 🙂
Stranger Skies by Pascale Lacelle (8%) – I still haven’t picked this one back up. It got bumped yet again for Onyx Storm. Womp. Womp.

What will you read next?
Here is where this month’s TBR currently stands. I’ve made quite a bit of progress in the past week. I finished two more of my picks and started a third. Once I finish Onyx Storm and Stranger Skies, I’ll have finished them all. 🙂

For the rest of the month, I hope to focus on some February ARCs and library holds that have recently become available:

The Bones Beneath My Skin by TJ Klune, The Broposal by Sonora Reyes, The Starlight Heir by Amalie Howard
I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? Let me know in the comments and feel free to link your WWW Wednesday posts there, as well. I’d love to see them!
Thank you kindly for staying mum about Onyx Storm!
You’re welcome! I’d hate to ruin it for anyone.
I’m currently having to avoid spoilers from the Gen Z group at work who like to talk about it in our lunch area. ☹️
That’s so rude. Good luck avoiding them.
I really hope that Onyx Storm lives up to all of our expectations. It’s going to be such a let down if it doesn’t 😳
I want to read The Starlight Heir just because of that cover. It’s sooooooo pretty.
I avoided all of the theories for Onyx Storm just so I could keep my expectations low. It definitely helped because I enjoyed it for the most part.
I am not enjoying The Starlight Heir, though. I do love the cover. The story? Not so much. I think it is going to be my first DNF of the year.
Oh that’s a shame. There should be a rule that books have to live up to their covers 😀😀
Wohoo!! I got my copy delivered yesterday! I need to finish my current reads before I will pick it up though. I hope it’s better than Iron Flame and I’ll be happy. lol Okay.. Five Broken Blades.. don’t expect much, got it! haha. I hope you have a great week, Chris!!
Yeah. Five Broken Blades was fun but definitely not a literary masterpiece. I went in with low expectations because it is a Red Tower book. It did surpass those expectations. I’ve even decided to not get rid of the book. lol. So, going in expecting nothing definitely helped.
I have been struggling with every Red Tower Book I have read. They make stunning books, but it’s deceiving. lol I am going in with no expectations… maybe lower expectations than I should. haha.
