Today is my birthday! So, I thought it would be fun to celebrate with an appropriately themed book tag. I first saw The Birthday Book Tag on Celeste’s blog a couple of years ago. It looked like a fun way to celebrate the occasion. Maybe I’ll make it an annual tradition moving forward. Only time will tell.
The Birthday Book Tag was created by Antonia at Always Books, and it provides birthday-related prompts to complete with a book recommendation that fulfills it. Without further ado, here we go!
Birthday Cake
A book with a plot that seems cliché but you adore it anyway

HEARTLESS HUNTER by Kristen Ciccarelli had a lot of popular YA fantasy tropes in it. So, it wasn’t super original, but I loved it anyway. Why fix what isn’t broken? Right? 🙂
Party Guests
Your most anticipated book release for this year

There are a lot of books I’m looking forward to this year, but KATABASIS by R.F. Kuang definitely takes the top spot. Kuang is one of my favorite authors, and I can’t wait to read her newest creation.
Birthday Presents
A book that surprised you with how much you loved it

I picked up MASQUERADE by O.O. Sangoyomi because of the Trope-ical Readathon. It wasn’t on my TBR, but it was one of the team books. I really, really enjoyed it. It is always nice to find a pleasant surprise, and this book was definitely just that.
“Happy Birthday” Song
A book that certainly deserved all the hype it got

I was in awe of THE STARLESS SEA by Erin Morgenstern. I definitely understand why it reaps the accolades that it does. The writing was gorgeous, and the story just completely transported me into its depths.
Happy Music
A book with some very beautiful and truly memorable quotes

So, I’m terrible at keeping track of quotes. I’ll often think that something is really profound and then immediately forget it. lol. Naturally, I can’t think of any particular quotes for this prompt, but I do remember that THE INVISIBLE LIFE OF ADDIE LARUE by V.E. Schwab had some great ones in it. I just wish I could remember them, which is kind of ironic given my choice of book. 🙂
Getting Older
A book that you read a long time ago, but you think you would appreciate more if you read it as a more mature reader

I hated THE GREAT GATSBY by F. Scott Fitzgerald when I read it in high school. I haven’t read it since. I’m not sure that I’d love it even now, but I do think I’d appreciate it more now than I did back them
Sweet Birthday Memories
A book that kept you incredibly happy during a sad or demanding period of your life

THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE KISSMAS by Sara Raasch was such a great book. It helped keep my spirits up while dealing with the stress of the move last year. The story did have some pretty heavy elements, but it also had tons of humor, too.
Well. That’s it for The Birthday Book Tag. I hope you’ve all enjoyed reading it as much as I’ve loved putting it together. I’ll be spending the rest of my birthday curled up with the new Emily Wilde book. I also hope to get some quality time with my LEGO Rivendell set. I’m almost done building it! As always, happy reading!
Happy birthday. Have a great time with your book and your lego. We definitely need to see a photo when it’s finished.
Thank you! I’ll definitely post a photo when it’s done. Hopefully, it’ll be finished in time for my February wrap-up post. I’m working on the last of three parts. Then I need to find the crate that the first two parts were packed away in and make sure they are still intact from the move. Fingers crossed.
Happy birthday to you! I hope you have the most wonderful day and that you get many bookish presents!
Also, loved the TAG and you answers
Thank you!
Ooh, a short and sweet book tag! I love that and I’m going to bookmark this for later 🙂 I don’t even have words for how excited I am for Katabasis. And that cover makes me want to get my hands on it EVEN MORE! 😂 I hope we both love it!
Once again, Happy Birthday, Chris! I hope you’ve had a fab day with the Rivendell LEGO set (it looks gorge) and reading Emily Wilde! 🥳🎂🎈
Right?! It is such a fabulous cover. I’m hoping there are some beautiful special editions of it, too.
Thank you! I managed to make some more progress on Rivendell. I’m so close to being finished, and I can’t wait to display it. It is an absolutely stunning set with a bunch of beautiful detail.
Happy Birthday!!! I am going to have to remember this tag in a few months. I hope you are having the best day!! Katabasis is one that I pre-ordered with the 25% B&N sale. It’s stunning and I am so excited!! haha. I hope my Emily Wilde book gets here soon!! Have a great day!
Thank you! I am so STOKED about KATABASIS. I didn’t pre-order it because I’m hoping one of the book boxes picks it up for a special edition. I will be getting my hands on it on release day in some format, though. lol. I hope we both love the new Emily Wilde. I’m enjoying it so far.
Happy birthday, Chris!! To be honest I’d completely forgotten I did this tag, so thanks for the reminder, haha! I’m glad you liked HEARTLESS HUNTER…that one’s on my radar after seeing it basically explode in popularity last year.
Thank you! I’d forgotten about it, too. Google didn’t, though. Your site showed up when I was looking for birthday book tags. lol.
I really did love HEARTLESS HUNTER. I’m itching to get my hands on the sequel, but Owlcrate is having production issues on their copy. So, it won’t be here until April at the earliest. 😭
Yessss SEO at work!! 🤣
Sorry about the delays Owlcrate is dealing with. On a related note, I’ve been trying to find out if FL is doing a SE for A CROWN SO SILVER, which is the sequel to A FEATHER SO BLACK. I’m a little concerned that it’s already out but there’s been no announcement. 😢
Oh no. I hate it when companies don’t make matching sequels. It’s so frustrating.
Wishing you the best birthday!
Thank you!
Happy Birthday!! I hope you had the most wonderful day
Thank you!
Happy (slightly belated) birthday! Hope it was a good one!
Thank you! It was a pretty great day.
Happy belated birthday!! I hope it was good!
Thank you! It was a pretty great, low-key day.
Happy belated birthday!

Happy belated birthday! Hope you had a great day. What a fun tag this is. I’m definitely clutching my pearls over your dislike for The Great Gatsby, but I think you’re not alone there 😆
Thank you! It has been a long time since I’ve read it. I’ve debated trying it again, but I just can’t bring myself to do it when there is so much other stuff to read. 🙂
I feel that. So many books, too little time!
