March 2025 Hopefuls (AKA My Trope-ical Readathon TBR)

It is that time of year again! The Trope-ical Readathon is here. 🙂 This is one of my favorite readathons, and I always look forward to participating. It is a team-based readathon where completing prompts based on common book tropes earns points for your team. I’ve chosen to join team Science Fiction this time around. For more information about the readathon (and to sign up), you can visit the announcement page over at Jen Jen Reviews. Registration is open until March 9th. Now, let’s take a look at the prompts.

The Prompts

The readathon includes 13 general prompts (and alternates) based on popular tropes found in fiction. The ones chosen for this round are:

  • Absent/Dead Parent(s) [A book with more than one author]
  • Time Loop [Reread a book]
  • Blast from the Past [Published before 2000]
  • New Kid in Town [A genre you don’t usually read]
  • Recent Loss [A buddy read with someone else]
  • Multiple POV [Multiple POC characters]
  • Mixed Media [An audiobook or ebook]
  • All Happens in One Day [Read a book in 24 hours]
  • Found Family [A book in a series]
  • Coming-of-Age [A protagonist that’s your age]
  • Dark Academia [Read a borrowed book]
  • Food Themed [A “meaty” book (at least 500 pages)]
  • Historical Figure [A book written in 2025]

Team Science Fiction also has some team-specific prompts and a choice between two team books (Hammajang Luck by Makana Yamamoto & Warcross by Marie Lu). The two team prompts are:

  • Read a book with the “Near-Future/Technothriller” trope
  • Read a book with the “Cryosleep” trope

My Hopefuls

I gave up on trying to pick books for each of the prompts a long time ago. lol. I’m terrible at figuring out what tropes might be in a book I haven’t read. Instead, I just choose a bunch of books I’d like to read and match them to the prompts as I go along. Hopefully, the ones I’ve picked out for this month will work for the prompts or alternates. If not, at least I can log the pages read as points for my team. Here are my hopefuls…

The Third Rule of Time Travel by Philip Fracassi, The Ragpicker King by Cassandra Clare, The Radiant King by David Dalglish, The Fourth Consort by Edward Ashton, The Prince Without Sorrow by Maithree Wijesekara

The Hymn to Dionysus by Natasha Pulley, The Brightness Between Us by Eliot Schrefer, Legendborn by Tracy Deonn, Bloodmarked by Tracy Deonn, Oathbound by Tracy Deonn

A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennett, Red Rising by Pierce Brown, Hammajang Luck by Makana Yamamoto, A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle L. Jensen, Gifted & Talented by Olivie Blake

Those are all of my hopefuls for the March 2025 round of Trope-ical Readathon. It is quite the ambitious list. We’ll see how successful I am at finishing them all. lol. Are you participating in the readathon? Let me know down in the comments! Happy reading!

  1. You’ve got a fantastic selection of books lined up for this month. I hope that you enjoy them all and manage to tick off all of your prompts too.
