WWW Wednesday (96) – May 8, 2024

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

Funny Story by Emily Henry – 4.5⭐ – This isn’t my favorite book by Henry, but I did enjoy it quite a bit. The fake dating roommates to lovers relationship was executed really well. Both of the main characters were relatable, and there was plenty of entertainment to be had from seeing their relationship grow, especially since they were each other’s ex’s exes. Huh. That’s confusing to write… lol. The third act drama was a little too overdramatic for me, but I liked how things turned out in the end.

Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas – 5⭐ – This is how you do a finale! There was so much going on in this book, and it all felt so epic. There were tons of emotional moments and some great callbacks to previous books. Everything came together really well, and I was satisfied with how it all ended. I do think a few things kind of came out of nowhere, but the resolutions still made sense despite not getting much foreshadowing. This could have been even better as two books because I would have loved a bit more time with the actual planning and execution of the final battle. I guess that would have ruined some of the surprises, though. All in all, I’ve enjoyed this series and thought this book was a fitting end. I think these books actually edge out the ACOTAR books for me as my favorite Maas series.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V. E. Schwab – 5⭐ – Reading this book felt like a slowly tightening vice grip around the heart. It was emotional and beautiful and devastating, while also holding a kernel of hope. I had such a great time buddy reading this with Dini and Julie. We were all in our feelings by the end, and it was nice to have someone to theorize and process everything with.

What are you currently reading?

Swordcrossed by Freya Marske (53%) – This book has gotten off to a bit of slow start. It isn’t bad. There’s just not a whole lot going on, which makes sense given the cover touts the story as being low stakes. I like both of the main characters, and they had instant attraction and chemistry. Their yearning is off the charts, and I’m just waiting for them to give into it because I’m sure it will be explosive. I like that they’ve gotten to know each other some before things get physical. Although, I’m still really curious about one character’s seemingly shady past.

The Book of Love by Kelly Link (52%) – I have no idea what the fuck is going on in this book. lol. Apparently, some kids died and somehow managed to come back to life. They are supposedly competing in some sort of game to see which of them get to stay alive, but there has been no information on what they need to do to win. Things are just sort of happening and now they also have magic and appear to be beholden to magical beings… I just don’t even know. It is entertaining, but I have no clue how it will all come together.

What will you read next?

A Promise of Peridot by Kate Golden, Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea by Rebecca Thorne, Relics of Ruin by Erin M. Evans

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Yay! I’m so glad that you loved Addie la Rue. I thought that it was just sooooo good. I hope that you enjoy Treason and Tea too. I thought that it was a nice cosy read but it had a bit of tension too which was good

  2. YESSSS!!!!! I am so happy to see you loved Kingdom of Ash! It’s my favorite of the series AND I enjoyed it more than ACOTAR. Although, now I’ll be curious if that changes with future books in ACOTAR. I am so happy you loved Addie too! It’s one of my favorites! 🙂
