Monthly Wrap-Up: April 2024

April felt like a bit of a slog despite also seeming to fly by. It has rained SO MUCH. There were some points where I wondered if it would ever stop raining. lol. Everything is so saturated, and now May is off to a wet start, too. On the bright side, I haven’t needed to use my sprinklers. So, I guess it isn’t all bad. My wife has been looking for a new job, and it seems like we will probably be moving in the near future. I’m actually quite excited at the prospect of being somewhere new, but I dread needing to move all our stuff, especially the mountain of books I’ve acquired. Has this stopped me from buying more books? No. 🤣 Speaking of books, let’s get to the point of this post and jump into what I managed to read in April!

What I’ve Read

Books & Audiobooks

April was an okay reading month. I managed to finish all of my classes for Magical Readathon with only one book swapped out from the initial TBR. I was in a bit of a slump, though, which is evident from my average rating in April being 3.84. That is significantly lower than usual for me. I read 6,667 pages, which equaled 16 books. The books I finished in April are listed below (ratings link to my review, if available):

  • Court of Wanderers by Rin Chupeco (📱 / 3.25⭐)
  • The Mars House by Natasha Pulley (🎧 / 4.25⭐)
  • The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern (📖 / 4.5⭐)
  • Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver (🎧 / 3.25⭐)
  • The Hemlock Queen by Hannah Whitten (📖 / 4.25⭐)
  • Enemies of the State by Tal Bauer (🎧 / 3.5⭐)
  • The Emperor and the Endless Palace by Justinian Huang (📖 / 3.25⭐)
  • A Dawn of Onyx by Kate Golden (🎧 / 4.25⭐)
  • Deep Is the Fen by Lili Wilkinson (📖 / 4.5⭐)
  • The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern (🎧 / 4⭐)
  • Night of the Witch by Sara Raasch & Beth Revis (📖 / 3.25⭐)
  • The Obsidian Tower by Melissa Caruso (📖 / 4.25⭐)
  • Misery Bay by Owen Lach (📱 / 3.5⭐)
  • Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas (🎧 / 3.75⭐)
  • The Sins on Their Bones by Laura R. Samotin (📱 / 4⭐)
  • A Botanical Daughter by Noah Medlock (🎧 / 3.75⭐)

Comic Books

One of my goals for the year is to read more comic books. I set the arbitrary number at 100 floppies, but I’d love to read way more than that this year because I am years behind on issues at this point. I managed to read 15 issues in April. All of them came from the most recent Moon Knight comic, which I’ve been wanting to finish for quite some time. I managed to finish this run of the comic, and what an ending it turned out to be. Here’s a few of the covers… I’m not going to include them all because 15 covers from the same comic feels just a bit unwieldy and unnecessary.

Progress On My 2024 Reading Goals

This year I am keeping things much simpler. I don’t have as many specific goals to track and am just trying to go with the flow. I do want to keep some sort of record of the trackable ones, though. So, here’s a quick peek at how my year is going so far.

  • Goodreads Challenge: 65/100 books (+16 in April)
  • Storygraph Pages Challenge: COMPLETED!!
  • Read from My Shelves: 23 books [18 physical, 5 audio] (+5 in April)
  • Books Unhauled: 16 sold on Pango (+2 in April)
  • Read Comic Books: 40/100 floppies (+15 in April)
  • Read Pre-2024 ARCs: 1/14 ARCs (+1 in April)

Final Thoughts

I didn’t post as much as usual in April, but you can find all of the stuff I wrote this month in my blog archives if you are interested in checking it out. However, I did add quite a few books to my shelves in April, which you can see in my book haul post.

Overall, I’ve definitely had better months of reading, but there were still some great gems in my April reading. My average rating was 3.84 in April. My favorite book in April was The Starless Sea. What was your favorite book from April? Let me know down in the comments!

Thank you to everyone who has visited the blog and engaged with comments and/or likes! I appreciate all of you and always enjoy reading your input in the comments. I hope everyone is having a great May!

  1. Ohhhh a potential move in your future?! I wish you all the best with the housing hunt and whatnot. When we moved from our condo to our SFH I didn’t have nearly as many books as I do now, but it was still quite a few boxes, especially because you can’t pack too many in a box or it’s super heavy. Anyway, I felt like my April reading also had a slightly lower average rating. Idk why…hoping May is better!

  2. I love moving to new places, especially new houses/apartments, but the worst part really is the packing! Especially books, welp. But I wish you luck with all of that when the time comes! 😃 April was a bit of a mid month but it looks like you had some pretty decent reads. I hope May will be a better (and less slumpy) month overall!
