Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?
What did you read last?
Castle in the Air by Diana Wynne Jones – 3.5⭐ – I didn’t love this book as much as Howl’s Moving Castle. However, it had the same whimsical tone to the writing, and I loved getting to explore the new settings. I’m a huge Aladdin fan. So, I appreciated all of the nods to that story, and I found the ways that the characters from the first book were included in the story to be entertaining and surprising. There were some bits that didn’t age well, though, and the romantic elements weren’t as fleshed out as the relationship between Howl and Sophie.
Goddess of the River by Vaishnavi Patel – 4⭐ – This was a beautiful retelling of Indian mythology. It tackled so many topics while also bringing Ganga, the river goddess, to life in such a compelling and believable way. The story explored the struggles of humanity, including greed, war, and the lust for power, while also showing how those faults often intersect with our better qualities, such as honor, loyalty, and love. A mother’s love for her son was at the heart of this story, but it was also a story about choices and their consequences. It was a great read!
Relics of Ruin by Erin M. Evans – ???⭐ – I’m not quite sure what I think about this book. There were things I really loved and others that made this book a struggle. I need to think on it a bit before finishing my review. Check back (hopefully) tomorrow for all of my thoughts.

What are you currently reading?
Running Close to the Wind by Alexandra Rowland (11%) – This book has already made me laugh so much. The main character is UNHINGED and chaos incarnate. Also, there are pirate shenanigans. I can’t wait to pick this back up.
Twelfth Knight by Alexene Farol Follmuth (9%) – I just started this one. It seems like it will be a fun YA romcom with a nerd and a jock falling for each other. At the moment, they kind of hate each other, and I cannot wait to see how their relationship develops. 🙂

What will you read next?

We Shall Be Monsters by Tara Sim, Death in the Spires by KJ Charles, A Darker Mischief by Derek Milman
I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!
Love the cover for Goddess of the River! You’ve also had some decent ratings this week! Except for the one you aren’t sure about, haha. I feel that though. Sometimes it is hard to decide.
It is a really beautiful cover. It has been an okay week. I haven’t come across anything I’ve absolutely hated. So, I can’t complain. 🙂
Running Close to the Wind sounds brilliant and I’ve added it to my list!!!!
Yay! It is so chaotic and has made me laugh so much. I hope you love it.
Unhinged and chaos incarnate!? Sign me up! 😂 Sounds like a lot of fun! I love that cover for Castle in the Sky and I’m excited to hear you enjoyed Goddess of the River. It sounds so intriguing and I love Indian mythology so I can’t wait to read it. I’ve got A Darker Mischief on my TBR and hope to read it very soon too just waiting for the ARC to land. Sounds a bit outside my comfort zone but I’m keen to try! Happy reading, Chris 🙂
I have been laughing so much while reading the new Rowland book. It is so chaotic. I’m not even sure there’s much of a plot other than following the horny chaos gremlin around to see all the trouble he starts. lol. There’s also a theft storyline, but it definitely takes a back seat to Avra’s unfiltered nature.
I enjoyed Goddess of the River. I’m not super informed about Indian mythology, but it was a great story. 🙂
Oh, no… I’m planning on reading Empire of Exiles in the next couple of weeks. I am nervous now if the second one isn’t as good. I got it as an ARC so I have to read it but that’s a bummer. Goddess of the River is such a stunning cover and I’m glad you enjoyed it!
I LOVED Empire of Exiles. Relics of Ruin wasn’t bad. I just didn’t enjoy it as much. The pace was a bit too slow, and the plot didn’t pack the same punch as the first book.
This is a trilogy, right?! Because if so… I’m not surprised the second book was a tad slower and didn’t hit the same. I plan on starting book one next week.
Yeah. It is a trilogy. I was just surprised that the story didn’t go a particular direction until the end. I wanted more of what was happening outside the empire after the way book one ended. I look forward to seeing what you think!
I’ve recently heard great things about both of your current reads so I hope you enjoy them! & I’ll be reading We Shall Be Monsters next month too!! 😀
I’m enjoying them so far. The new Alexandra Rowland book has me laughing hysterically.
That’s great, I love when a book’s humour shines through so well it makes you laugh out loud!
