My Favorite Backlist Reads of 2024

Hello, everyone! Today I have my first year-end list of top books, my favorite backlist reads of 2024. I managed to narrow the list down to 10 books this year, mostly because I read quite a bit less this year. I read all of these in 2024, but they were published prior to the beginning of the year. I’ll have a post with all of my favorite new 2024 releases sometime in the next couple of days. So, be on the lookout! All of the covers link to Goodreads in case anything catches your eye…

In Memoriam by Alice Winn – This book had me in my feelings. It was a heart-wrenching story about the boys that went to war in the first World War. It was brutal, but the bonds formed between the soldiers were something beautiful amidst the awful ugliness of the war.

These Burning Stars by Bethany Jacobs – I’m not sure that I can put how much I enjoyed this book into words. It was exciting, and the characters were all so interesting. I don’t read nearly enough sci fi, and this book made me want to pick up more. The sequel is burning a hole in my audible right now, and I’m dying to listen to it.

The Ivory Tomb by Melissa Caruso – I loved this entire trilogy, and this book was a fantastic conclusion to the story. I loved how this story built on the lore laid out in Caruso’s first trilogy, and I’m always amazed at how much she manages to make me care about her characters.

The Watchmaker of Filigree Street by Natasha Pulley – I’ve wanted to read a book by Pulley for years. I managed to read two this year and enjoyed them both. This was such a great mix of mystery, historical fiction, speculative fiction, and romance. Pulley does a fantastic job of messing with the reader’s head and building such an atmospheric world.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab – What is there left to say about this one? lol. It has had so much hype, all of it deserved.

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern – This is another book that has been reviewed to death and deserves all the hype it has received. It was so atmospheric, and the imagery was fantastic. I just adored getting lost in the magic of it all.

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff – I loved the use of different forms of media to tell the story. It was such a fun way to piece everything together. I did not expect the ending, and I hope to read the next two books in 2025.

Lirael by Garth Nix – I finally finished the Sabriel trilogy this year. I loved it! Mogget is still my fave, but the Despicable Dog was great, too. I enjoyed getting to meet Sabriel’s kids, and the adventure was interesting. Lirael was a great character to follow.

Slippery Creatures by KJ Charles – I loved the romance in this series. The mystery and conspiracies were fun, too. Charles is definitely one of my favorite historical romance writers.

Everything for You by Chloe Liese – This was my first book by Liese, and I really enjoyed it. If you are looking for a great sports romance, look no further. 🙂

There you have it. My favorite backlist reads of 2024! Do we share any favorite books in common? What were your favorite books of the year? Let me know in the comments!
