What did you read last?
I only managed to finish one book this week… This was mostly because I was super laser focused on getting through this particular book. It was definitely the priority.
Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros – 3.75⭐– I always have a lot of fun reading the books from The Empyrean series, and this one was no exception. If you want to see my thoughts on this one, head over to my review!
What are you currently reading?
Stranger Skies by Pascale Lacelle (40%) – I finally made some serious progress on this book. I decided to start it over since it had been so long since I picked it up. Unsurprisingly, I’m loving it so much. The writing is so good, and the story just has me in a chokehold. It has gone in directions I did not expect, and the tension between Baz and Kai is exquisite. I need them to get together.
The Starlight Heir by Amalie Howard (51%) – I’m really not feeling this book. The story has some cool mythology that has me intrigued. However, it has been presented in a haphazard way. The FMC is really getting on my nerves, too. She is SO HORNY for the prince. Reading that dynamic can be fun sometimes, but it just feels so out of place in this narrative. Like girl, you just found out you have magical powers and are being hunted for them. Maybe cool it on ogling the dude and talking about how wet he makes you. She’s also somehow fucking a mysterious shadow daddy in her sleep. He just randomly makes appearances in her ‘dreams’ to dick her down with shadows. Like, what? It doesn’t help that the story is pretty much all the typical romantasy tropes with a few new mythological aspects to try to make it stand out. Maybe I’m just over romantasy in general? I don’t know, but this book is not it and may be my first DNF of the year.
What will you read next?
Here is where this month’s TBR currently stands. I’m on my last planned read for the month, and I should be able to finish it before the end of January. Yay!
Once I finish my last TBR book, I hope to focus on some February ARCs and library holds that have recently become available:
The Bones Beneath My Skin by TJ Klune, The Broposal by Sonora Reyes, Greenteeth by Molly O’Neill

Ohhh, I can’t wait to read your review. There’s no way Onyx Storm is getting more than 4 from me.. I’m so confused by all the 5 stars. lol. I’m glad Stranger Skies is a good read! I will be starting Greenteeth in the next week or so. I hope we enjoy it. 🙂
You’re making me glad I skipped THE STARLIGHT HEIR in my romantasy sub. I’d read a bunch of the reviews on NG too and what I saw didn’t really make me want to read it. 😬
Lmao I’m cracking up at what you’ve written about Starlight Heir! It almost makes me wanna check it out even more just to see how ridonkulous it is but I know the untimely horniness would defo irritate me 🤣 I’m sorry it’ll be your first DNF (or just really bad read) though. It sounded so good!
I have to say from what you’ve written, The Starlight Heir sounds like everything I dislike about romantasy. I definitely won’t be bothering with it.
