Today I’m participating in Top Ten Tuesday, which was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each week there is a new theme/topic, and participants choose ten books that fit it.
This week’s theme is Bookish Goals for 2025. I managed to find 10 things I’d like to accomplish this year. It is a wide range of things, including some stuff that is rolled over from last year. I think these are all doable, but we’ll see in 12 months how well it goes. lol.
- Goodreads Challenge: Every year I always set my Goodreads Challenge to the same goal, 100 books. I’ve done the same again this year. I’ve managed to read far more than 100 books for the last few years. So, hopefully the goal will be easy to meet.
- Reading Journal: I tried to keep a physical reading journal last year, but I gave up on it before the year was halfway over. The journal I’d chosen just didn’t have a format that worked for me. The monthly sections didn’t have enough review spaces for all of the books I read, and it just annoyed me. So, I’ve found a journal with a different format that I think will work better. I do really enjoy keeping a record of my thoughts for me and being creative with stickers and other items. I’m hopeful I’ll be able to stick with it this year.
- StoryGraph Pages Challenge: I did this challenge for the first time last year, and it was great for getting me in the habit of logging my reading daily into StoryGraph. The habit ended up lasting throughout the year. So, this one should be pretty easy to do again this year.
- Blog More Consistently: My blogging really fell off a cliff in the latter half of 2024. I was lucky to review one book per month and usually managed less than 10 posts per month. I want to be more consistent in creating content. Specifically, I’d like to post at least three times per week with one of them being a book review.
- Read from My Shelves: I feel like I have this goal every year. lol. I didn’t set any strict numbers to the goal last year, but I still did okay. Not great, but some progress is better than nothing. Right? This year I’d like to read at least 50 books from my shelves. I’m defining this to mean any book I’ve purchased, including physical books, audiobooks, and ebooks. I just really want to give some focus to the stuff I’ve spent my money on over the years.
- Unhaul Books: I managed to unhaul quite a few books last year thanks to purging my collection before my move. I need to restock my Pango shop because it has been sitting dormant for months now. I just need to find some books that I don’t want to keep. lol. Like I said last year, I’m a bit of a book dragon, and I REALLY don’t like slimming down my hoard. Unfortunately, it is a necessity because the house only has so much space. I’m not going to set a strict number for this goal, but I probably need to unhaul at least 10-20 before the end of the year.
- Engage with More Blog Content: In addition to slacking on my blog posting, I’ve also been blog hopping much less for the last several months. I miss seeing what everyone else is doing and want to carve out some time to get back into visiting other blogs more frequently.
- Read Red Rising: I’ve had this series on my TBR for what seems like forever. It is finally time to tackle it. I hope to read all the currently released books by the end of 2025.
- Read Subscription Box Books: I need to do a better job of keeping up with my book box subscriptions. Unfortunately, I barely read any of the books I got last year despite really liking the sound of so many of them. I hope to read at least half of the subscription books I get this year. I’m also going to try to use my skips more liberally.
- Comic Books: I don’t even know what to say about my comic collection. Last year, I said it was a mess, and things haven’t gotten any better. I’ve stopped buying comic books for the time being. I think keeping a soft ban for this year would be really prudent, maybe with exceptions for some Star Wars and Doctor Who stuff because I tend to actually read those more. Ultimately, I just need to continue chipping away on reading the ones I’ve got. I’m not going to put a number to it because I failed at it last year, but I’d like to read at least some comic issues each month.
There you have it! My bookish goals for 2025. What are you hoping to accomplish? Let me know down in the comments!
I tried an actual reading journal last year but it seemed to be designed for people who read about 5 books a month so wasn’t really fit for purpose. I still use it to make notes of books for challenges and other stuff but not as a journal.
Good luck with your goals especially reading the books that you’ve currently got on your shelves.
That is exactly the problem I had with the journal. I’m hoping this new format will work better for me, but we’ll see. I don’t have a good track record for sticking with journals. lol.
I’m definitely going to need all the luck I can get to stay focused on the books on my shelves. So, thank you! 🙂
Good luck with all of these! We have some that are similar. I do think the last half of the year is my most tricky time, every year. Summer break with the kids.. I reckon is the killer for me. lol I am also telling myself to stop reading so many ARC’s and read my own books. One way that it helped me last year… was doing something kind of risky. I would request series that already had a book or two out (that I owned) and it would force me to read them and before the ARC. It worked out decent most of the time. The only time I regret it was with First Binding. Good read, but a freaking monster x2. haha
Thank you! That is such a smart way of making yourself read books from your TBR. I might try it with a couple of series this year if I’m feeling bold. lol.
Haha, it makes me feel like the ARC is justified. It does take some planning. I’m sure you can do it with some series. 🙂
Good luck with your 2025 goals! I’d also like to read to more unread books from my own collection but my goal is maybe 8 haha (I don’t think I own 50 unread books).
Thank you! I wish I didn’t own over 50 unread books. lol. I’ve slowly been making a catalogue, and I’m sitting at over 300 so far. That number needs to come down…
