WWW Wednesday (153) – August 19, 2026

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

Here is a look at the books I’ve finished in the last week:

The Burn Line by Jonathan Sims (4⭐) – The writing in this horror novel was so atmospheric and claustrophobic. Each of the characters had a lot of depth, but time spent to develop all five POVs so much really bogged things down in the middle of the story. The plot was really cool, though, and I loved the use of the imagery to drive home the social commentary.

Star Wars: Legacy by Madeleine Roux (3.75⭐) – I did end up enjoying this book. The way Rey was acting threw me off at first, but the more I read, the more it made sense. Of course she wouldn’t be thrilled about training with Kylo Ren’s mom. lol. Duh. I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop, and a lot of time was spent on Rey figuring out how to accept her dark tendencies without succumbing to them. There was a lot of great thematic content in this book, and I loved the force ghost appearances we got. It just made me that much more upset that we never got anything like them in the movies. 🤷‍♂️ The side plot felt a bit superfluous, but it was fine and showed how the First Order was operating in the wider galaxy at this point in the timeline. Overall, this wasn’t my favorite Star Wars book, but it provided some much-needed context the relationship of Rey and Leia after the events of The Last Jedi.

Dark Reign: Fantastic Four by Hickman, Chen, & Ruggiero (3.5⭐) – I’ve started reading some of Hickman’s old stuff in the runup to Secret Wars. This mini-series felt really drawn out, but it felt like not much happened. That being said, I have no doubt that the impact of the events on Reed will be huge, though, and I’m curious to see where things are going in future issues.

The Brightness Between Us by Eliot Schrefer (4⭐) – I can’t believe it took me so long to read this book considering how much I loved the first one. I think I was a bit worried that it wouldn’t live up to it. So, I just never picked up the sequel until now… That being said, this book wasn’t as good as the first one, but it did still rip my heart out and stomp on it. lol. I wish that Owl and Yarrow had a more balanced amount of time as POVs. The start of the book focused exclusively on Owl, and I found her personality to be really annoying. I think the things that happened with Yarrow later in the book would have worked better for me if I’d been able to read a bit more of his thoughts before the changes happened. The story was still good, though, and I enjoyed getting to spend more time with Kodiak and Ambrose.

The Salt King by Natasha Pulley (51%) – I’m a huge Pulley fan and have been so excited to pick this one up. So far, it’s living up to my expectations, and I’ve got my fingers crossed that it will stick the landing. The world, mythology, and characters are all so fascinating, and of course, Pulley’s writing is as wonderful as always.

A Tale of Whispers and Rogues by Jordan Lee (5%) – This was a spontaneous check out from the library. I saw the audio in the recently added section of Libby and decided to scoop it up. It’s fine so far and seems like it will be a pretty run of the mill romantasy. The vibes remind me a lot of Embers of Analon, which I finished reading recently.

Prince of Swords by Elise Kova (4%) – I’m only a few chapters into this one, but I’m enjoying it so far. I was surprised by how quickly the cliffhanger ending of the previous book was pretty much undone. I expected it to be a way bigger ordeal, but I’m also glad that the story won’t be spending a ton of time re-treading the escape part of the plot from the first book.

What will you read next?

My next ARC read will be Bridget & Gabe Are Not Okay, which was actually released last week. My next audiobook will be Arcane Entanglement, which is a library borrow. Finally, my next physical read will be The Lord of the Wood, which is the final book on my priority reads list for this month.

Bridget & Gabe Are Not Okay by Lex Croucher, Arcane Entanglement by Ava Marie Salinger, The Lord of the Wood by E.M. Anderson

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? Let me know in the comments and feel free to link your WWW Wednesday posts there, as well. I’d love to see them!
