WWW Wednesday (61) – August 9, 2023

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

There’s just too many books this week to talk about each of them in depth. I’ve reviewed A Crooked Mark and Mimic Arcanist if you’d like to see all my thoughts on them. Amari and the Night Brothers is definitely a new favorite. I did not see the twist coming AT ALL, and it left me so totally gobsmacked and sad. The Three-Body Problem was interesting, but I didn’t really jive with the structure of the story-telling. I loved the premise enough to give the sequel a shot, though. The Defiant Heir was a complete surprise. I LOVED this book, which I wasn’t expecting since I didn’t fall madly in love with the first one. The focus on the witch kingdoms was just so fascinating, and I found a new book boyfriend in Kathe, the intelligent, scheming crow lord. I finished my re-read of Red, White & Royal Blue, and I enjoyed it even more the second time around. The extra chapter from Henry’s perspective at the end of the collector’s edition had me in my feelings. I absolutely adored getting to watch him and Alex start their lives together and settle down. It was the perfect epilogue. Finally, I read a graphic novel, Clark & Lex, which was a fun new take on the relationship between these famous rivals. It felt a bit rushed, though, and I wish there had been more time to develop the characters, especially Lex.

What are you currently reading?

Forged by Blood by Ehigbor Okosun (36%) – The world and culture in this book are fascinating. I’m not a fan of the time jump, though, and the characters just aren’t really grabbing my attention. Hopefully I’ll enjoy it more the further along I get.

Amari and the Great Game by B. B. Alston (36%) – I’m loving this book just as much as the first one! The investigation in this story is fascinating and has me theorizing big time. I also like that it seems as if some old enemies might become friends, or at least allies. I cannot wait to see where this one goes!

The Pattern of the World by J. T. Greathouse (6%) – I just started this one, and I’d forgotten just how horribly things went wrong at the end of the last book. lol. Everyone is in pretty dire straights at the start of this story, and the world is literally broken. I just started this book, but it is definitely off to the races from the get go.

What will you read next?

The Midnight Kingdom by Tara Sim, Path of Vengeance by Cavan Scott, Fake Dates and Mooncakes by Sher Lee

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Oh no, your comment about Greathouse’ book makes me nervous to read the second book. Absolutely loved the first but it was brutal… Don’t know if I’m ready for the second, lol. I hope you enjoy the final book and that it ends nicely though! And I can’t wait to continue Amari πŸ™‚ Happy reading!

    • Yeah. The second book was brutal and ended with things in a super precarious place. The third one starts off dealing with the immediate aftermath of everything that happened in book two. It is all pretty intense.

I started reading Amari again earlier today. I hadn’t touched it in a couple of days, but I’m happy to be back at it again. ☺
