WWW Wednesday (62) – August 16, 2023

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

Forged by Blood by Ehigbor Okosun – 3.5⭐ – I didn’t love this one as much as I’d hoped I would. The Nigerian mythology and setting were really cool, but the way the love triangle was utilized really annoyed me. I also didn’t love the time jump and never could seem to get back into the story in the same way after it. You can see all my thoughts in my review!

In the Case of Heartbreak by Courtney Kae – 3⭐ – This was a cute best friends to lovers story. It just couldn’t decide what it wanted to be. There were so many different plot points, and they all seemed a bit half-baked. The reality competition was not at all realistic, and the weird compound run by grandma was a bit over the top. I liked the romance and the emotional journey of the lead characters, though. It is the only reason I didn’t DNF this one.

Of Knights and Books and Falling in Love by Rita Rubin – 4⭐ – I enjoyed this adorable, slice of life MM fantasy romance. You can find all my thoughts in my review.

Amari and the Great Game by B. B. Alston – 4.5⭐ – I didn’t like this one quite as much as the first book, but it was still a great read. My biggest problem was the great game. It felt like an afterthought compared to everything going on with the bureau and magical congress. There were so many great twists, though, and the last few chapters had me going through a roller coaster of emotions. I really need the next book.

What are you currently reading?

The Book That Wouldn’t Burn by Mark Lawrence (20%) – This is really great so far. I’m super curious about this library. I’m not sure what is going on yet, but the ride has been compelling up to this point.

The Pattern of the World by J. T. Greathouse (74%) – I am struggling with this one, which makes me so sad. I’m not sure if it is a me thing or a problem with the book, but I have not been enjoying it at all. It has taken me over a week to get this far with it because I don’t really ever want to pick it up. It has honestly put me in a bit of a slump. I’ll save the rest of my thoughts for my review, which I plan to have ready (hopefully) tomorrow. So, stay tuned.

What will you read next?

The Midnight Kingdom by Tara Sim, Path of Vengeance by Cavan Scott, A Game of Wings and Marks by Rebecca Crunden

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Good week in books! I’m struggling a bit with how long Ethera Grave is taking me, I forgot just how DENSE that series is. Red White and Royal Blue is giving my brain a break!

    • RED, WHITE & ROYAL BLUE!!! I just finished my re-read last week. 😁 Have you seen the movie yet?

I did something similar to you with OF KNIGHTS this week. It was the perfect break for my brain, which became problematic because I just wanted to read it instead of the other book. Lol

  2. Oh no, I’m sorry Pattern of the World is putting you into a slump! It looks like you’ve had a great reading week though. I can’t wait for the next Amari book to come out tooβ€”I need to know what happens! Hope Lawrence’s book can pull you out of the funky reading mood and happy reading πŸ™‚
