Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?
What did you read last?
Breeze Spells and Bridegrooms by Sarah Wallace & S.O. Callahan – 4⭐ – This was such a delightful read. The animosity between the leads was intense in the beginning, and I loved their slow burn romance and how the authors depicted the gradual growth of their emotional and physical intimacy. The magic systems were really cool, and I enjoyed my time spent reading about the characters and their experiments. I just wish the rest of the world-building had been explored a bit more given its importance to the plot. See all my thoughts in my review!
The Atlas Complex by Olivie Blake – 5⭐ – This was quite the ending to the Atlas saga. There was plenty of pretentious philosophizing about moral quandaries, and the emotional impact of this one was also strong for me. I was satisfied with how the story ended because it felt consistent with the trilogy’s themes, but I know some people will hate it for what it meant for the characters and their relationships. You can see all my thoughts in my review!
The School for Invisible Boys by Shaun David Hutchinson – 4.5⭐ – I don’t read much middle grade, but I’m a huge fan of Hutchinson’s work. So, I just had to request this eARC. I enjoyed this one a lot and related strongly to the main character. He was bullied and isolated from his friends, which ultimately led to him learning he could turn as invisible as he felt. Nothing was as it seemed at first, though, and I enjoyed unraveling the mysteries and battling the monsters alongside these characters. Be on the lookout for my full review (hopefully) tomorrow.
Don’t Want You Like a Best Friend by Emma R. Alban – 3.75⭐ – This was a cute sapphic regency romance mixed with a parent trap plot. I liked the two main characters, and my favorite parts of the book were when they were scheming together. I think the story may have been trying to do too many things at once, though, and it didn’t quite come together as well as I’d hoped. It is also important to note that this is sort of a step sibling romance, which some people may find icky. I didn’t mind it because the characters didn’t fall in love while step siblings, but if Goodreads is any indication, some others may not enjoy it. I found this one fun enough to pick up the sequel when it comes out, and I’m looking forward to it.

What are you currently reading?
Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse (21%) – I’ve had this book on my shelf for what feels like forever, and I’m finally reading it. I’ve heard nothing but great things about it, and I’m enjoying it so far. The characters and world-building have been interesting, and I’m curious to see where the story is going.
Infinity Alchemist by Kacen Callender (18%) – I read my first book by Callender, Stars in Your Eyes, last year and immediately requested the eARC of this one when I finished it. I’m enjoying this one so far, too. It has trans rep, an underdog main character, and a fascinating magic system. What more could I want? 🙂
Swann’s Way by Marcel Proust (18%) – I didn’t make any progress on this one in the past week. It will probably be a bit before I can get back to it because I have approximately five ARCs to read before February 6. lol. I don’t know why that ended up being such a popular day.

What will you read next?

The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett, The Trials of Empire by Richard Swan, The Wonder Engine by T. Kingfisher
I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!
I’m currently reading The Blade Itself, The Conference of Birds, and an Edgar Allan Poe collection of short stories. Black Sun has been on my TBR list since it came out. I look forward to reading your review of it.
I’m enjoying Black Sun so far. I’m glad I finally decided to pick it up because it has been on my TBR since it came out, too. I hope you enjoy all of your reading this week!
Nice to see you gave five stars to THE ATLAS COMPLEX. This makes me even more excited to pick up books 2 & 3. Thankfully I haven’t seen any spoilers (unlike some other popular series that are hard to avoid), so I feel I can take my time and savor these because her writing style is probably one of my favorites.
Oh good. You definitely don’t want to have it spoiled because there are plenty of gaspworthy moments. I cannot guarantee you’ll like them, though, because lots of people who enjoyed book one HATED book two and/or three. I’m very curious to see what you think once you get to them. 🙂
Okay, you’ve sold me on Breeze Spells and Bridegrooms. It sounds so cute! I’ll be curious to see what you think of Black Sun. I’ve heard a lot of great things but I tried to pick it up at some point last year and it was so intense and I wasn’t in the right mood for it so I put it down (but I defo plan to come back to it)! I hope you have a great week 🙂
I’m enjoying Black Sun. The beginning was definitely intense with the mutilation of the little boy, but that is probably the most intense thing in the book so far. It is nowhere near as traumatizing as The Poppy War. lol.
You’ve had a lot of high ratings this week! That’s awesome. Mine have been few and far between, haha.
It has been a pretty good week. Unfortunately, one of my current reads might be a DNF because it is starting to put me in a bit of a slump. So, my high rating streak appears to be over. lol. I hope you have some better reads this week!
Black Sun is one that I’ve had for so long. I’m going to wait until the last book comes out to start, at this point! Trials of Empire is intense so far! I have Tainted Cup on deck! I hope you enjoy your reads!
I’ve had it forever, too. My library finally got the audiobooks of the first two books. So, I decided to read them that way. I’ve been following along in the book some, too, and I really like the story so far.
I would definitely expect nothing less of Trials of Empire. The other books were intense, too, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how that trilogy wraps up.
