Naughty or Nice Book Tag (Christmas 2022)

Hello, everyone! I did this tag last year and had a lot of fun with it. So, I thought I’d do it again and see if I’m naughtier than last year. The tag was created by Jen of Jenniely, and the goal is to answer the bookish questions to find out if you will be on Santa’s naughty or nice list this year.

1. Received an ARC and not reviewed it

We’re not off to a very good start. lol. I have quite a few ARCs that I need to review because the publication date has already passed. I think I’ve done an admirable job of catching up recently, but I’m still a bit behind.

2. Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley

Things are looking up! I’ve actually managed to achieve and maintain above the magical 80% threshold on NetGalley for the past couple of months. So, this one is a no.

3. Rated a book on Goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did)

No. In general, I don’t rate the book on Goodreads until my review is done if I plan to write a review. It is one of the ways I keep track of what I still need to review.

4. Folded down the page of a book

My answer to this is still ABSOLUTELY NOT. I don’t think that answer will ever change.

5. Accidentally spilled on a book

This is actually a yes this year. I have books everywhere right now. One of them got something sticky on the front of the dust jacket somehow (maybe from late night candy cravings… who knows?). It was easy to clean off once I noticed it, but I think it technically counts as a yes…

6. DNF a book this year

I’ve DNF’d not one, but four, books this year. I’m actually pretty proud of it because last year I didn’t DNF any. I’m slowly trying to give myself the space to put down things I’m not enjoying, but I still struggle with FOMO because I always want to know how the story ends even when I’m not enjoying it.

7. Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it

This has actually gotten even worse than last year. lol. I’ve been on a special edition buying spree. I’ll probably read most of them, but I bought them purely because they were pretty.

8. Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework)

My answer to this one is still yes. My house is still often a wreck, and it is still because I read instead of doing chores…

9. Skim read a book

Yep. There have been a few this year that I didn’t love but wanted to finish to see where the story would go. Cue the skim reading.

10. Completely missed your Goodreads goal

No. I’ve almost DOUBLED my goal of 100 books this year, which is insane. If you’d told me two years ago I’d be reading 200 books a year, I would have laughed in your face because I was struggling to reach 20 per year back then. So, it is a pretty huge accomplishment for me, and I’ve loved getting to read so many great books.

11. Borrowed a book and not returned it to the library

Nope. The worst I’ve done is forget to cancel a hold that I didn’t want anymore.

12. Broke a book buying ban

No, but only because I didn’t bother trying this again this year. lol.

13. Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about

Yeah. Thank goodness for Google and detailed book synopses. I’ve been much more lazy this year than last, and it sometimes takes me a while to get to the reviews. The names are the worst to remember, but there have been a few times where I’ve forgotten key plot points, as well.

14. Wrote in a book you were reading

Nah. I’m still not much on annotating, but I want to start doing it more. I recently bought a Kindle Scribe to help out, but I’ve still yet to annotate a book.

15. Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads

No. This is still something I do immediately after finishing. My TBR shelf is still an inaccurate mess, though. I’ve pretty much given up on it at this point.

16. Borrowed a book and not returned it to a friend

No. I haven’t borrowed a book from a friend this year. I still don’t have many friends that read as much as I do.

17. Dodged someone asking if they can borrow a book

No. See the previous answer for the reason why…

18. Broke the spine of someone else’s book

Nope. I’m still not that much of a monster. 🙂

19. Took the jacket off a book to protect it and ended up making it more damaged

No. I always leave my dust jackets on the book while reading it. That hasn’t changed this year.

20. Sat on a book accidentally

Yeah. Like I said earlier, I’ve got books everywhere. It is almost inevitable that they will get sat on at some point. I’ve still been lucky, though, because none of my books have been damaged by it.

Total: 8/20

I was a little bit naughtier this year compared to 2021. I think Santa would still be good to me, though, because I’ve been more nice than naughty. 🙂

I tag anyone who wants to participate!

  1. I’ve not finished a few more this year as generally I will skim read to the end of a book that isn’t really engaging me just to see how it all ends up. I did have two that I actively disliked so wasn’t tempted to skim read which is fairly unusual for me.
