Monthly Wrap-Up: February 2024

February is always pretty busy for me because everyone in my family, including me, has a birthday during the month. So, I spent a lot of time at birthday celebrations and baking cakes. It was a pretty great month and seemed to fly by.

What I’ve Read

Books & Audiobooks

February was a roller coaster when it came to reading. I found some new books that I love, some mediocre reads, and a couple of books that were pretty big disappointments. My average rating this month was 3.98, which is really low for me. I don’t think I can even remember it ever being below 4.0 before. I read almost 5,500 pages, which equaled 14 books. Despite a few books that got on my nerves (cough***Faebound***cough), I did find some new gems and enjoyed most of my reading in February. The fourteen books I finished in February are listed below (ratings link to my review, if available):

  • Fevered Star by Rebecca Roanhorse (🎧 / 4⭐)
  • Waiting for the Flood by Alexis Hall (📖 / 4.25⭐)
  • The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakavic (🎧 / 3⭐)
  • The Trials of Empire by Richard Swan (📱 / 4.25⭐)
  • Voyage of the Damned by Frances White (📖 / 4.25⭐)
  • Faebound by Saara El-Arifi (🎧 / 2⭐)
  • Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas (🎧 / 3.75⭐)
  • Disciples of Chaos by M. K. Lobb (📱 / 4⭐)
  • Proper Scoundrels by Allie Therin (🎧 / 4.5⭐)
  • An Education in Malice by S. T. Gibson (📖 / 4⭐)
  • Us, Et Cetera by Kit Vincent (🎧 / 4⭐)
  • Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert (🎧 / 4.75⭐)
  • Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson (📱 / 4.5⭐)
  • Heartless Hunter by Kristen Ciccarelli (📖 / 4.5⭐)

Comic Books

One of my goals for the year is to read more comic books. I set the arbitrary number at 100 floppies, but I’d love to read way more than that this year because I am years behind on issues at this point. I managed to read 7 issues in February. All 7 of them came from the Superman: Son of Kal-El comic, which I’ve been wanting to finish for quite some time. I’ve enjoyed this run of Jonathan Kent stories, and I’m looking forward to seeing where his story goes next.

Progress On My 2024 Reading Goals

This year I am keeping things much simpler. I don’t have as many specific goals to track and am just trying to go with the flow. I do want to keep some sort of record of the trackable ones, though. So, here’s a quick peek at how my year is going so far.

  • Goodreads Challenge: 31/100 books (+14 in February)
  • Storygraph Pages Challenge: COMPLETED!!
  • Read from My Shelves: 10 books [7 physical, 3 audio] (+4 in February)
  • Books Unhauled: 10 sold on Pango (+7 in February)
  • Read Comic Books: 17/100 floppies (+7 in February)
  • Read Pre-2024 ARCs: 0/14 ARCs (+0 in February)

I’m still on track with my physical reading journal, and I’ve continued having a lot of fun with it. My NetGalley hasn’t gotten out of control yet either, which is a huge accomplishment. lol. I’m still sitting at a 91% feedback ratio. If you want to check out all of my goals for the year in more detail, check out this Top Ten Tuesday post.

Final Thoughts

I did manage to do a few blog posts along with my reviews in February. You can find those in my blog archives if you are interested in checking them out. I also added quite a few books to my shelves in February, and you can see them all in my book haul post.

Overall, this has been another good month of reading. My average rating was 3.98 in February. My favorite book in February was Heartless Hunter. What was your favorite book from February? Let me know down in the comments!

Thank you to everyone who has visited the blog and engaged with comments and/or likes! I appreciate all of you and always enjoy reading your input in the comments. I hope everyone is having a great March!

  1. You read A BUNCH of books in February! There are some I’ve been eyeing for some time, like The Foxhole Court and Heartless Hunter.

I’m so happy I saw you also tracking comic books. I am doing a similar thing with mangas (I did a 24 in 2024 sort of post) and I’ve been meaning to get back into comics as well.

You seem to be making great progress with your goals, and a 91% rating in Netgalley is amazing, I need to up mine.

    • February was definitely a good month for me overall. I loved Heartless Hunter, and I hope you enjoy it when you get to it.

I’ve been so far behind on my comics. I’m hoping that tracking what I read will motivate me to read more of them. I’ve got boxes and boxes to get through…

Netgalley has always been hard for me to keep up with regularly. I have a tendency to go on requesting sprees and then spend months catching up and burning out. I’m trying my best to avoid that this year.

  2. Happy belated birthday! Oof, another low star rating for Faebound! I know Caitlin wasn’t as impressed with it either despite enjoying the author’s previous works. I wonder what I’ll think when I get to it!
