What did you read last?

Misery Bay by Owen Lach – 3.5⭐ – I liked all the answers we got in this book. Many of the lingering mysteries were resolved, and the story set things up for an explosive finale. I just had a really hard time staying focused on this one. The quest was too prolonged, and it made parts of the story blur together. The characters were still great, though, and there was some serious growth in this book. You can read all my thoughts in my review.

Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas – 3.75⭐ – This book was way too long for the amount of story it told. While I enjoyed getting to learn about a new locale, this story brought the momentum of the series to a screeching halt and just felt like a really odd choice for a penultimate book. I did like the new characters, though, and the rooks were really cool. I just wish it had all been integrated throughout the rest of the series rather than having a weird one-off detour right before the finale.

The Sins on Their Bones by Laura R. Samotin – 4⭐ – This was a heavy book filled with lots of emotion. The characters were struggling to cope with a myriad of traumas, and their journey of healing was the core of the book. The narrative was fairly slow because of the focus on the characters, but it did have some really fascinating world-building and Jewish folklore. You can read all my thoughts in my review!

A Botanical Daughter by Noah Medlock – 3.75⭐ – This was such a creepy book. I loved the premise and the atmosphere of it all. Two gay plant dads building the daughter they could never have out of plants, fungus, and a human corpse? What could go wrong? lol. The writing was really good and fit the vibe of the story really well. I just wish there had been a little more consistency and depth to the characters.

What are you currently reading?

Funny Story by Emily Henry (55%) – I’m having such a great time with this book. It has all the usual wit and charm of an Emily Henry book, and the fake dating roommates to lovers story is crafted perfectly. I genuinely like both of the main characters and am rooting for them to be happy. 🙂

Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas (7%) – I’m so excited to see how this series ends. All of the major players are back in this one, which is a relief after Tower of Dawn. I’m not too far into it, but the tension is already high.

What will you read next?
