Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?
What did you read last?
I managed to finish three books this week! I also DNFd one. My mood has been a bit all over the place this week, though. My rabbit, Pancakes, died over the weekend. He’d been a part of our family for over 13 years. We’ve been waiting for the day to come, but it seemed like he was going to outlive us all. Unfortunately, his end was a bit traumatic for us. We heard him screaming in terror after having what seemed to be a stroke. He was immobile and terrified when we found him. Luckily, he didn’t linger long, and we were able to soothe him as he passed. I’ll never forget the sound he made or the look in his eyes, and the whole experience has left my wife and I quite unsettled. As a result, I haven’t been much in the mood to read.
Here are the books I’ve read since my last check-in:
The Last Hour Between Worlds by Melissa Caruso – 4.25⭐– I was hoping to have a review up for this one by now. I just haven’t been able to sit down and write it out. It was a great book, though, and I’m looking forward to seeing where Caruso takes the series next.
Beware the Nameless by Zoraida Cordova – 4.25⭐ – This was such an exciting middle grade installment of the High Republic series. The Nameless were truly terrifying, and all of the youngling characters in this story completely stole my heart. I was so excited to be reunited with Tep Tep and Kildo. They are both such great characters. See all of my thoughts in my review!
Path of Destruction by Drew Karpyshyn – 3.75⭐ – It was interesting to finally experience this take on Darth Bane even if it isn’t canon anymore. I wish there’d been a bit more depth to his training and eventual turn on the Sith order. It all felt a bit rushed. I am curious to see what the rest of the trilogy has to offer, though, now that the bulk of what I knew about Bane has already happened.
Look Up, Handsome by Jack Strange – DNF – I stopped reading this one at 16%. The plot of losing the bookshop felt a bit too contrived. The heavy introspection was already repetitive, and I just wasn’t enjoying the vibes of the characters. So, onwards and upwards to (hopefully) better books.

What are you currently reading?
The Ashfire King by Chelsea Abdullah (26%) – I like the story so far, especially getting to explore parts of the sunken jinn world. I’m also very interested in seeing where Aisha’s story goes. She has quite the internal struggle going on. I’ve just struggled to keep picking this one up because I haven’t been much in the mood to read anything.
The Phoenix Keeper by S.A. Maclean (1%) – I’ve just started this one today. My hold on the audiobook became available at the library. So, I’m hoping that switching between the physical and audio formats will help pull me out of my reading funk. We’ll see.

What will you read next?

The Survivor Wants to Die at the End by Adam Silvera, The Lure of Their Graves by Laura R. Samotin, Tears of the Nameless by George Mann
I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? Let me know in the comments and feel free to link your WWW Wednesday posts there, as well. I’d love to see them!
I’m so sorry about Pancakes. I had a cat that passed in a similar fashion. It’s never easy to lose a pet—they’re family. Take it easy on yourself and if that means bopping around from book to book, then that’s ok too. I hope your next few reads are able to help get you out of your understandable funk.
Thank you! It is so weird that he’s gone. We’ve lost pets before but none that have been with us for so long. He was a fixture in our household for pretty much my entire adult life.
Oh no. I’m so sorry about Pancakes. That must have been so upsetting for you both. It’s always difficult to settle into a book when something as traumatic as that happens. I often reread an old favourite as I don’t have to concentrate so much.
I hope you manage to enjoy whatever you decide to pick up
Thanks! That’s a really good idea. I might pick up something I know I love to see if I can prevent my slump from getting worse.
Oh gosh, Chris! I’m so sorry to hear about Pancakes. I can imagine how unsettling that must have been to lose him so traumatically. 🥺 I hope you find something—whether that’s in reading or otherwise—to help ease your mind and with the healing. Take care!
Thanks, Dini. It was definitely a rough experience that left me in a weird headspace. He’s been there for most of my adult life. So, it has been strange for him to just be gone.
Oh my gosh!! I’m so sorry about Pancakes. 🙁 What a traumatic way to go for all of you. I am sure that has really messed with your mood & reading, rightfully so. I do hope you find some peace and comfort. <3
Thank you! It was definitely a difficult thing to experience, but I’m glad we were able to bring him at least some comfort at the end.
[…] I only finished one book this week. I also haven’t written a blog post since last week’s update. I’ve been busy outdoors and trying to focus on getting some projects done around the house. Here is the book I’ve read since my last check-in: […]
