Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?
What did you read last?
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins – 4⭐ – I’ll be honest. I decided to finally pick this book up because of all the movie clips on my TikTok FYP, most of which were thirst compilations of Tom Blyth. lol. Anyway… this book was good. I liked seeing Panem so soon after the end of the war, and the story really fleshed out the character of Coriolanus. He was such a self-absorbed twat, and by the end he was clearly transforming into the villain we know from The Hunger Games. His lust for power and control made sense given his circumstances, but he was still a pretty horrible person whose actions destroyed so many lives and perpetuated awful atrocities for the sake of self-preservation. The story did drag a bit at times, but I enjoyed it and will definitely see the movie at some point (for the plot, of course).
The Eye of Darkness by George Mann – 4⭐ – This was a great start to phase three of The High Republic. I’ve missed these characters, and I liked that this book took the time to really sit with the difficult grief and self-doubt they faced after the Starlight tragedy. I wish there had been more Marchion Ro in the book because I’m interested in learning more about him and his long-term plans, but I definitely liked what we got. It has made me even more excited for this new phase of storytelling. See all my thoughts in my review!
Legacy of the Brightwash by Krystle Matar – ?⭐ – I haven’t quite settled on a rating for this one yet because I’m still working on my review. Just know that it will be high. I absolutely loved this book. It had me in its clutches from the very beginning, and the character work is some of the best I’ve read this year. I’ll have my full review up soon, but the short version is this book quickly joined the ranks of my best backlist books of the year.

What are you currently reading?
Painted Devils by Margaret Owen (20%) – I’m finally reading this book! I loved Little Thieves and was so excited about this sequel. It’s just been getting pushed off ever since its release. I’m loving it so far. Vanja is still A MESS. This girl accidentally started a whole cult and now she has to deal with the consequences. She and Emeric are still so adorably awkward, and I love it so much.
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas (84%) – I made significant progress on this one in the last week. It is starting to pick up after a lackluster middle. This competition of assassins has not been nearly as exciting as the premise made it sound. I’m curious about the mystery of the dark creature, though, and I like the characters. So, I’ll definitely be continuing to series.
A Demon’s Guide to Wooing a Witch by Sarah Hawley (25%) – This book is just as goofy and humorous as the first one, and I’m enjoying the lightness of it all. The pairing in this one is fun, and who doesn’t like a good amnesia romance?

What will you read next?

Clockwork Boys by T. Kingfisher, Fellow Travelers by Thomas Mallon, Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett
I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!
I never read Songbirds and Snakes but I’m probably going to watch the movie. haha. Throne of Glass is a rough one. I took over a year off before picking up the second book. It’s her debut and it shows but I promise it gets better as you keep going in the series!
Yeah. I really liked the premise of Throne of Glass, and the start of the book was really good. The middle was just so repetitive and boring. The ‘competition’ was so lackluster. I’m glad it gets better because I like the characters and am intrigued by the world.
100% its a tough one but hang in there with the rest of the series!! 🙂
I haven’t read Clockwork Boys, but I’ve loved other books by T. Kingfisher, so that one is now on my list!
I’m almost finished with it and like it so far. It is a pretty run of the mill quest story with a great cast of characters. I’ve yet to come across a book by T. Kingfisher I don’t like.
