Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?
What did you read last?
It has been a decent reading week for me. Here is a look at the books I’ve finished in the week since my last WWW Wednesday check-in:
The Good Vampire’s Guide to Blood & Boyfriends by Jamie D’Amato (4.5⭐) – This was such a fun take on a vampire romance. I smiled and laughed so much reading this book, and the main couple was just so wholesome. The found family vibes were really great, too, and I absolutely adored their friend group. I can’t recommend this one enough, but feel free to read my review if you need more convincing. 🙂
A Bluestocking’s Guide to Decadence by Jess Everlee (4.5⭐) – I enjoyed the first two books in this series and have been looking forward to finally reading this third installment. Jo has been a fantastic side character, and I was so happy to see she was getting a story of her own. Her world is thrown upside down when her husband gets his girlfriend pregnant. The good thing they had going is suddenly seemingly in peril, at least in Jo’s head. Her abandonment issues really come to a head in this story, and I love how her relationship with Emily developed from antagonistic to passionate. Their story also highlighted the perils of being a woman in the late 1800s, especially when trying to work inside the bounds of society, at least seemingly, to be independent.
The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy by Brigitte Knightley (2.25⭐) – Ugh. This book was such a letdown. The characters were cardboard cutouts. The world-building was nonexistent. The plot was thin and quite repetitive. Most egregiously, there was no climax to the story. It just sort of ended. I get that it is the first part of a duology/series, but there still should have been SOMETHING. The only saving grace was the snarky banter, but even that got repetitive after a while because there wasn’t really much to the characters. Oh, well. Another one for the Pango shop. The Illumicrate edition is so pretty, too, that I almost don’t want to get rid of it. 😭
Wings of Steel and Fury by Sarah J. Daley (DNF) – Unfortunately, this book was a DNF for me at 45%. I was so intrigued by the premise, and the world-building was probably my favorite thing about the book. A world perpetually at war over resources to give to their angel overlords was a really cool idea. The place where this fell apart for me was with the characters. The angel, Eleazar, was interesting, and I liked his arc of recovery and acclimating to life after his fall from Splendour. I probably would have finished the book if it had been entirely from his POV. The siblings, though, got on my nerves. I didn’t find either of them very compelling, and their reactions to Eleazar just didn’t feel genuine to me. Then the story started moving in the direction of a forced love triangle between them all, and I had to throw in the towel. Things in this first half of the book just dragged on, and the focus was very character heavy with a spotlight on the siblings I didn’t like. I’ve seen in other reviews that the latter half is action-packed and has more of a plot. I just couldn’t hang in there to get to it.

What are you currently reading?
The Ellyrian Code by B.F. Peterson (28%) – I stumbled upon this book on Libby. Dragons? Academia? A blurb that promises the story is Fourth Wing meets The Atlas Six? Sign me up. I’m enjoying it so far. It is quite slow, but the set-up of the world is really intricate. There’s also been a focus on character-building in this first third of the book, and I’m very intrigued by each of them. I’m super curious to see where this story is headed once everything starts rolling.
Katabasis by R.F. Kuang (7%) – I’ll be reading this one slowly over the course of the month as part of a group buddy read. I’m two chapters in right now and loving it so far. Something about Kuang’s writing just scratches a particular itch in my brain. I’m loving the emphasis on academia in this book so far, and you can tell Kuang is really in her element when writing about it.
The Copper Promise by Jen Williams (15%) – I’ve had the audiobook of this one for a while after catching it on sale at some point. It is quite fast-paced and exciting so far.

What will you read next?
Hopefully, it will be one of these…

Voidwalker by S.A. MacLean, The Tortured Kingdom by Bryan Asher, Exquisite Things by Abdi Nazemian
I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? Let me know in the comments and feel free to link your WWW Wednesday posts there, as well. I’d love to see them!
That’s so disappointing that two of your books weren’t that good last week. I’ve seen some mixed reviews for the Brigitte Knightley so you’re obviously not alone in your opinion.
Hope that you have a better reading week this week
Yeah. It was definitely a rough week. I had high hopes for the Knightley book, but it just fell short. I’m glad to know that I’m not alone in having that experience.
[…] I missed out on posting a WWW Wednesday last week. I’ve been in a bit of A MOOD, and it’s left me feeling no motivation to blog. I think it has also made me a little harsher toward what I’m reading, which you can probably see from my ratings/thoughts below. Here is a look at the books I’ve finished in the past two weeks since my last WWW Wednesday check-in: […]
