WWW Wednesday (145) – September 17, 2025

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

I missed out on posting a WWW Wednesday last week. I’ve been in a bit of A MOOD, and it’s left me feeling no motivation to blog. I think it has also made me a little harsher toward what I’m reading, which you can probably see from my ratings/thoughts below. Here is a look at the books I’ve finished in the past two weeks since my last WWW Wednesday check-in:

The Ellyrian Code by B.F. Peterson (3.25⭐) – I’ll be honest. I finished this book almost two weeks ago, and I’ve already forgotten why I rated it 3.25⭐. lol. Most of the book, actually, seems to be escaping my memory at the moment. So, that’s probably the best thing I can say about it. It wasn’t very memorable. I know that it had a lot of academia, and the focus was heavy on the characters and setting up the story. However, I don’t remember the story going anywhere. So, I’m betting this one ended up being largely the background for future novels.

The Copper Promise by Jen Williams (3.5⭐) – I’ve had this audiobook in my library for ages. I’m glad I finally got around to it. It was fast-paced, and I found the characters to be entertaining. I wish things had slowed down a bit more at times, though, because the depth did feel a bit lacking. Ultimately, I’m curious to see where the series goes next.

Exquisite Things by Abdi Nazemian (5⭐) – This should come as no surprise because I love Nazemian’s writing, but this book was fantastic. The multiple time periods came alive, and I loved how it all showcased different moments from queer history. You can find all of my thoughts in my review!

The Tortured Kingdom by Bryan Asher (3.75⭐) – I read this book as part of a blog tour and had a lot of fun with it. It was a dungeon-crawler quest with plenty of action. I wanted a bit more from the world-building but enjoyed the story nonetheless. See all my thoughts in my review!

Four Ruined Realms by Mai Corland (3.75⭐) – I finally picked up the second book in this series! Honestly, the plot was a bit of a mess, and the writing was also super repetitive at times. However, I still enjoyed it. Some things happened towards the end that I didn’t expect. So, I’ll be reading the final book for sure even though the quality of the story and writing aren’t really the best. The twists have me hooked. lol.

The Deathless One by Emma Hamm (3⭐) – This book wasn’t bad, but it was incredibly mid. It had a lot of popular romantasy tropes. The immortal shadow daddy and hidden princess work to win back the kingdom while falling for each other. You know. The usual. The world-building felt bare bones while also being a bit confusing at times, and the middle of the book was an absolute slog. I’m sure hardcore romantasy fans will eat this book up, but there just wasn’t enough that was new to excite me.

An Amateur Witch’s Guide to Murder by K. Valentin (35%) – I’m really liking this story so far. It’s a supernatural investigation mixed with a possession story. Although, I am confused about how murder fits into things. Maybe it will be important later? I guess we’ll see.

A Far Better Thing by H.G. Parry (12%) – I just started this book today, and I haven’t wanted to put it down. Faerie shenanigans are one of my favorite things to read, and this story is full of them so far.

Katabasis by R.F. Kuang (53%) – The group buddy read of Katabasis has still been chugging along. We all seem to be liking it so far. I just find the entire concept of the novel so fascinating, and it’s been fun to travel into hell via Kuang’s mind.

What will you read next?

Hopefully, it will be one of these…

Voidwalker by S.A. MacLean, Trials of the Jedi by Charles Soule, All of Us Murderers by KJ Charles

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? Let me know in the comments and feel free to link your WWW Wednesday posts there, as well. I’d love to see them!
