WWW Wednesday (42) – February 22, 2023

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas – 4.5 ⭐ – I finished up my buddy read of this one with Celeste, and I loved it. This book was so good. I totally get the hype now. I am now 100% in love with Rhysand and think Tamlin deserves to rot in hell. lol. I loved all of the suggestive banter between Rhys and Feyre, and the found family of the Night Court was the absolute best.

The Tethered Mage by Melissa Caruso – 3.75⭐ – This was a fascinating fantasy filled with conspiracies, political intrigue, and a cool magic system. I liked the two main characters a lot and enjoyed seeing their dynamic shift as their relationship grew. I could have done without the romance subplot, though, and the story did tend to drag a bit in certain places. Nonetheless, it was a great introduction to this fantasy world, and I’m looking forward to seeing where the series goes next.

The Foxglove King by Hannah Whitten – 4⭐ – I enjoyed this book quite a bit. I liked the court drama, the death magic, and the way the author described it all. It really sucked me into this world. See all my thoughts in my review.

DNF – I did finally DNF Prince of the Sorrows by Kellen Graves. I just couldn’t take any more of the writing even though the story was fun. It just wasn’t really my thing.

What was my favorite of the week? My favorite this week was A Court of Mist and Fury. I’m honestly a bit surprised by this, but I really did love this book. It also completely changed the way I think about the first book and is one of the rare times that a sequel elevated my opinion of the series opener. I’m looking forward to jumping into book three next month. 🙂

What are you currently reading?

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon (9%) – I don’t know why I’ve been so intimidated by this book. I’m really enjoying it so far. I like the split perspective between the two different empires, and I’m curious to see how they will intersect. The world-building is insanely good, and I’m having such a great time getting to know the world.

Him by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy (48%) – This book is HOT AF. That’s all I have to say. lol.

Chain of Thorns by Cassandra Clare (20%) – akjdfjklajkdjfkdjakjfkajsdkfjlkdjakjdfkjdkfjajdkjfnvlknginvkdnveiwnegvkdnv!!!!!! I have so much to say, and it’s mostly expletives. It roughly translates to… Neither of those fuckers deserves Cordelia, and the first 20% of the book basically resolves most of the drama from the end of the last book and brings everyone back to London. So, all the contrivance felt a bit pointless. Also, this plan to reintroduce Jesse as a different Blackthorn is dumb AF. His body just went missing and now a new Blackthorn magically pops up? Are the rest of the Shadowhunters really dumb enough to fall for that? I guess we’ll see. All that being said, I’m eating it up, as usual. lol.

What will you read next?

I’m not really sure. It will probably be one of these, though.

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!

  1. The best thing about The Tethered Mage is that (while still a good time), I think it’s the weakest of the trilogy. The Defiant Heir is definitely my favorite, and I feel like the author only improves with each book!

    • Thank you! I almost picked up Kindred at B&N yesterday, but I was good and put it back to save money. I think I’ll check to see if the library has it. I’m glad to see you’re enjoying it and hope you continue to do so! Have a great week!

  2. YES!!! I told you that you would love Mist and Fury!! It’s the best one though. haha. I am about halfway into Foxglove and enjoying it. I hope you have a great week!!

    • Yep. You were right! It was great. Even if the others don’t live up to that standard, I’d probably be satisfied as long as they aren’t awful. I just want Feyre to rip Tamlin a new one. I hope you continue enjoying Foxglove King. I liked it and am definitely looking forward to the sequel.

      • Haha!! Yeah, the rest is good.. Although, I do not love the continuation as much. Yes, Tamlin is awful!!! I am not sure when the show will ever air, but it doesn’t matter who they cast. I will hate him. Yes, I ended up liking it! I finished it earlier today. I was missing a few things but overall, really enjoyed it.

  3. So, so, SO happy you loved ACOMAF. And ah! It’s even your favorite for the week!! Now you know what the hype is all about. Welcome to the club. I had a MASSIVE book hangover after reading it for the first time. It lead me to start my blog haha. Full circle and it feels oh so good. Not sure I want to share my book bf with you, though. 😛 Jk.

    • I’m a little over halfway into Chain of Thorns now, and I’m liking it more than I did at first. I despised how Chain of Iron ended, and the beginning of this book was more of the same contrived drama. Now that it’s gotten into the plot, I’m enjoying it and super curious about how it’ll all end.
