WWW Wednesday (126) – April 16, 2025

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

I finished four books this week! It has all been rather enjoyable, and I’ve even discovered a new favorite. Here are the books I’ve read since my last check-in:

Give Me Butterflies by Jillian Meadows – 3.25⭐– I almost DNFd this one because the writing in the beginning just wasn’t working for me. I was also a bit worn out on reading about grief. However, I plowed through, and the story did start to grow on me. I loved reading the dynamic of their little family and getting to see the FMC grow into someone comfortable in her own skin. The instalove was sort of insufferable at times, though, and it was a little weird how quickly the FMC got absorbed into the family unit.

The Raven Scholar by Antonia Hodgson – 5⭐ – This is a new fantasy release that shouldn’t be missed. You can find all of my thoughts in my review, but it is safe to say I loved it. I have no doubt this one will be making my best books of 2025 list come December.

The Last Boyfriends Rules for Revenge by Matthew Hubbard – 4⭐ – This book had a fun premise, and I appreciated the timeliness of the messaging in it. The struggle to overcome the tyrannical school board’s policies was compelling. The main character’s journey to self-acceptance and feeling worthy of love and belonging was also really great. I just didn’t like the main character for most of the book. He was really standoffish and kind of selfish. I understood why, and he did experience growth. It just got on my nerves. I also think I might just be finally outgrowing contemporary YA stories.

A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle L. Jensen – 4⭐ – This was a really entertaining story with a great pace. I loved the Nordic setting and ties to mythology. The forbidden romance had great chemistry, as well. I do wish more of the “surprises” had actually been unpredictable, but I still enjoyed the story. The FMC did get on my nerves a bit with all of her self-blame and guilt over things that were out of her control. She didn’t really grow a ton in the story, and I was hoping she’d have more agency by the end. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing where things go in the sequel, though.

What are you currently reading?

The Gods Time Forgot by Kelsie Sheridan Gonzalez (5%) – I’ve only read the first chapter of this one. The beginning has been really confusing, but I think it was intentional because the main character is super confused, too. I’m curious to see what is going on.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown (2%) – I finally started this book! It has been on my TBR for AGES, and I’m excited to see whether it is worth all of the hype.

What will you read next?

I need to read The Mask of Fear because I wanted to get to it before the new season of Andor starts, which is now only a few days away. I also still have some ARCs and library books that I need to get to next:

The Mask of Fear by Alexander Freed, The Ashfire King by Chelsea Abdullah, To Steal from Thieves by M.K. Lobb

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? Let me know in the comments and feel free to link your WWW Wednesday posts there, as well. I’d love to see them!

  1. I am SO excited to read The Raven Scholar now!!! I have seen so many great reviews and a few from trusted book friends. 🙂 I’m about 20% into The Ashfire King now and it’s been good so far.

    • I can’t wait to see what you think of The Raven Scholar. I loved it so much. I still need to start The Ashfire King. At this point, I’m waiting for my copy to arrive from B&N. It should hopefully be here tomorrow.

      • I just had the audio become available and had to extend it because I’m so swamped! I can’t wait though. I’m about 40% into Ashfire!
