From the Backlog – The 5 Comic Book Volumes at the Top of My TBR

As I wrote last week, I’ve decided to stop buying new comics from books that I am not caught up on. So, my focus has now turned to working on reading a variety of books from my backlog. In today’s post, I’ve decided to highlight the five comic book volumes at the top of my TBR, in no particular order. These are books I’ve wanted to get caught up on and plan to spend some time with over the coming months.

When the sun goes down and the devil comes around again, he may lost whatever’s left of his soul. And in the present, Earth’s mightiest villains unite! What do the king of Atlantis, the lord of vampires, the deposed duke of Hell, a mysterious Russian assassin and the secret boss of Washington D.C.’s greatest super-team, have in common? They all really hate the Avengers! Worse still, mummies are rising from their graves. A dark god has invaded Asgard. And Moon Knight is unleashed! So begins the Age of Khonshu. So fall the Avengers!

For weeks, Hell’s Kitchen has been a lawless neighborhood thanks to the Stromwyn siblings – but when the police are fi nally able to resume their patrols, they’re quick to learn that they aren’t the only ones interested in keeping the streets safe. Meanwhile, after the events of the past several weeks, Matt Murdock continues to struggle with how best to appease his sense of justice. But he’d better think fast, because a familiar enemy is taking root in the Kitchen…

Empyre (2020)

Synopsis:

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and Marvel’s First Family star in an intergalactic event that threatens to reshape the Marvel Universe! Old allies make a distress call to the Avengers with news of a terrible enemy that could wipe out humanity itself. The Celestial Messiah has returned – but is Earth ready to hear his message? Meanwhile, in the most unlikely of places, the Fantastic Four witness the final conflict of the Kree/Skrull War…and a long-hidden Elder of the Universe stands revealed! With the Kree and the Skrulls united under a new emperor, their war fleet charts a course – for Earth! The Avengers are ready to fight, while the FF seek a diplomatic solution. But if the two teams can’t work together to save the day, Earth may not survive…

Synopsis:

Empyre rocks the world of the Fantastic Four! First, the Mole Man and his biggest monsters return to the surface, with all their righteous wrath aimed at one man: Wyatt Wingfoot! Can the Human Torch and Sky possibly save him? Y’know, this really would’ve been a good time to have brought all of the FF! Elsewhere, a never-before-seen Elder of the Universe steps into the light! Who is it, and how will they change things for Marvel’s First Family…forever? As the FF find themselves in deep space, neck-deep in the events of Empyre, who can the Richards kids Powerhouse and Brainstorm call on to help them deal with a looming crisis back on Earth?
