A Book About Friendship

This book is not necessarily about friendship per se, but one of the main relationships in the book is a very strong friendship. I enjoyed seeing the relationship between Rig and Ginka develop over the course of the story and appreciated the exploration of how their friendship affected both women.

A Translated Book

This historical fiction book was originally written in French and is the first in a series chronicling the fall of a French dynasty and the beginning of the Hundred Years War. I loved the series. It was full of political maneuvering, backstabbing, and war.

A Diverse Romance

While this isn’t strictly a romance, the romance plot is front and center throughout the book. It is diverse; the central relationship is queer and multiracial. The book also explores the topics of death and grief, which created a compelling story when paired with the romance. All of that combined with Klune’s wit and charm and the fantastical/supernatural elements made this book one of my favorites from last year.

A Fast-Paced Book

Despite being almost 1000 pages long, I flew through this epic fantasy book. The plot is gripping from beginning to end and doesn’t really slow down at all. There are several POVs and many of them are constantly moving from one disaster to another, which keeps everything feeling like it is balancing on a knife’s edge. Amazingly, the fast pace didn’t detract from the excellent character development, and I never wanted to put this action-packed monster of a book down.

A Non-Fiction Book (Not a Memoir)

I don’t read a ton of non-fiction, which is why reading more if it is one of my goals for this year. Most of the non-fiction I’ve read recently has been related to psychology due to my profession, but I’ve tried to read some fun books on that topic, as well. This book is an excellent example of that, and I loved getting to read people applying psychological principles to The Doctor. If you are a fan of Doctor Who and psychology, you’ll probably enjoy this book.

An Underrated Memoir

I don’t think I’ve ever read a memoir. I don’t think there is even one on my TBR, at least not that I can remember. So, I’d love some recommendations for memoirs that you all loved. I’m not gonna promise I’ll read them since it isn’t really my preferred genre, but I’d love to peruse some options. Leave them down in the comments if you have some to share!

A Book With Fewer Than 10,000 Ratings on Goodreads

This book is the first in a series that has excellent character development and interesting world-building. It only has 37 ratings on Goodreads, which is way too few. If you like fantasy, teenage angst, and queer characters, this might be the book for you. Give it shot, and be sure to leave a rating/review on Goodreads!

A Book With a LGBTQ+ Protagonist

This was one of my favorite books of last year. The twist in this one took me completely by surprise, and the existential crisis created by this book left me reeling for quite a while after I finish reading it. The queer protagonist was just the cherry on top of a truly spectacular sci fi read.

A Book By a Trans/Non-Binary Author

This is the first book that comes to mind whenever I think of a book with a trans character written by a trans author. The story and writing were excellent, and the culture in the book was fascinating and complex.

A Book With More Than 500 Pages

This space opera was intricately detailed and profound in its world-building. It also illustrated some truths of humanity that we struggle with and painted a portrait of what they might look like on a inter-galactic scale.

A Short Story Collection

I don’t usually read short story collections. This is the only one I could find on my TBR. I saw it all over Twitter when it was published, and the concept of several stories set in the same world sounded appealing. Maybe one day I’ll actually read it…

A Book You Want Everyone To Read

How could this recommendation be anything else? I don’t think I’ve been quiet about my love for this saga. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I want everyone to read it. This story is massive in scope while still feeling intimate. The action, themes, and characters are all top-notch, and the emotions these books invoke are honestly overwhelming at times.
