The Greek Gods Book Tag

Last month, I was tagged by Dini @dinipandareads to do The Greek Gods Book Tag. I had so much fun reading her answers, and I immediately began thinking about what my own might be. I finally finished deciding on them. So, let’s get down to it!

The Rules

  • Pingback to Zuky here so she can read all your posts!
  • You can use her graphics if you like, but you don’t have to if you don’t want to.
  • Tag as many people as you want, but please share the love.

Zeus, King of the Gods: Your Favourite Book

The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee

Dini and I chose the same book/series for this one. I love these books so much, and they made me an emotional wreck while reading them. I can only think of a few other books that made me sob as much as these. lol. The world and characters were all so vivid and immersive, and I fell in love with this family.

Hera, Queen of the Gods: A Badass Female Character

Rin from The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang

I couldn’t think of anyone else more badass than Rin for this prompt. She goes through so much horrible stuff and still manages to keep on fighting. The choice she made at the end of this book is about as badass as it gets.

Janus, God of Beginnings: Your Favourite Debut(s)

Voyage of the Damned by Frances White

I’ve read so many great debuts, and it was impossible to narrow them all down to one. Instead, I’ve chosen my most recent favorite. This was a fun murder mystery with lots of magic, mayhem, and a hilarious bi disaster protagonist.

Athena, Goddess of Wisdom: Your Favourite Non-Fiction Book

THE DARK QUEENS by Shelley Puhak

I don’t read a ton of nonfiction books, but this one has really stuck with me. It was a thrilling tale of medieval queens that wielded the power to shape Europe.

Aphrodite, Goddess of Love: A book you adore and recommend everyone read

THE RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR MEDIATING MYTHS & MAGIC by F.T. Lukens

This is my favorite book by Lukens, which is really saying something because I love all of their work. It is hilarious and witty, and I just absolutely adore the main character.

Hades, God of the Underworld: An evil book you wish didn’t exist

HALF LOST by Sally Green

I don’t think I’ve read a book I’d classify as “evil,” but this book comes close. This ending to the trilogy put me in a rage and made me regret ever picking up the books in the first place. If I had my way, all copies would be thrown into a raging inferno. I hated it that much.

Poseidon, God of the Sea and Earthquakes: A beautiful and ground-breaking book

THE SPEAR CUTS THROUGH WATER by Simon Jimenez

Pretty much everything about this book was both ground-breaking and beautiful. The story structure and narrative style were unlike anything I’ve ever read, and the story itself was imaginative and poignant.

Apollo, God of the Arts: A beautiful book cover

A MARVELLOUS LIGHT by Freya Marske

I love all of the covers in this series. They are just so vibrant and immediately catch the eye.

Hypnos, God of Sleep: A book so boring you almost fell asleep

FAEBOUND by Saara El-Arifi

I was so bored through most of this book. I listened to it on audio, and I actually did fall asleep several times while listening to it…

Hermes, Messenger of the Gods: A book you sped through

THE DARKNESS OUTSIDE US by Eliot Schrefer

This is one of my all-time favorite books. It was absolutely gripping, and I could not put it down. The twist was gut-wrenching, and I wish I could go back and read this one for the first time again.

There you have it! My answers to The Greek Gods Book Tag. I tag Celeste @ A Literary Escape and Jodie @ Witty & Sarcastic Bookclub! I’d love to see the answers of anyone else who wants to participate, too. So, consider yourself tagged if this tag looks like fun! 🙂

  1. I love this tag and thank you for reminding me about The Dark Queens which I meant to read last year and never got around to .

  2. Great post, Chris! I loved reading your answers. TGBS is SO GOOD and it will take a monumental series to knock it off my #1! 😂 I’ve read a few of these on your rec and I’ve added a few more to my TBR cos of your reviews too. What you’ve said about Voyage of the Damned makes me so excited to read it!

    • Yeah. TGBS is definitely god-tier. It will take something that stomps my heart into dust to top it. lol. I hope you enjoy Voyage of the Damned. I’ve seen mixed reviews of it, but I really loved it. 🙂
