WWW Wednesday (123) – February 26, 2025

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

I finished two books since last Wednesday! I also managed to DNF another book, my second one for this year. I’m slowly getting better at putting down things that don’t work for me.

Water Moon by Samantha Sotto Yambao – 3.5⭐– I struggled with this one. I didn’t find the characters all that compelling, and the romance didn’t really work for me. The adventure was fun and super whimsical, though. There were so many cool settings and magical things happening, and I did like the ending. All in all, this book was a mixed bag. I liked it, but I didn’t love it, which was a bit disappointing.

Rebel Witch by Kristen Ciccarelli – 4.75⭐ – I loved this conclusion to the Crimson Moth duology. The energy between the main characters continued to be electric. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time to see how everything would be resolved. I can’t recommend this duology enough.

Order of Swans by Jude Deveraux – DNF – I stopped reading this one at 29%. It wasn’t terrible, but I just didn’t care about the characters or what was happening. The setting was weird. It was a strange mix of science fiction and fantasy that just didn’t work for me.

What are you currently reading?

Rebel Blade by Davinia Evans (45%) – I’m so sad to say that I’ve been struggling with this one. I loved the first two books in the trilogy, but this final book has been a slog so far. Very little has happened in the first half, and I’ve just been really bored. Two of the main characters have been actively trying to avoid doing anything, which is so counter to their personalities in the first two stories. The third has been absolutely reckless in her decisions, while also managing to get nothing accomplished. I’m just frustrated. lol. Hopefully, the second half is better. Things have picked up a bit in the last two chapters…

Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare (20%) – This book has been on my shelf for a while. Luckily, Celeste wanted to buddy read it, which was exactly the motivation I needed to pick it up. The prologue was an unnecessary slog, but I’m enjoying the first few chapters for the most part. The world-building is a bit too dense, though. All the name-dropping of people and places has made my head spin. I’m curious to see where the story goes.

The Resurrectionist by A. Rae Dunlap (14%) – I randomly picked this one up on Libby because I loved the cover. I just started listening to it last night, but I’m enjoying it so far. It is a bit macabre, but I like the main character. He’s completely out of his element, and I’ve liked getting to experience the medical training alongside him and his new friends. I have a feeling he’s going to get wrapped up in body snatching corpses, and I can’t wait to see what kind of trouble it brings him.

What will you read next?

Here is where this month’s TBR currently stands. I’ve finished four books and am on to another. It is going to be a tight squeeze to finish everything off, but hopefully, I’ll be able to manage it.

As the month wraps up, I plan to focus on a short read from my shelves to finish off my TBR and ARCs publishing in early March:

The Wood at Midwinter by Susanna Clarke, Once Was Willem by M.R. Carey, The Radiant King by David Dalglish

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? Let me know in the comments and feel free to link your WWW Wednesday posts there, as well. I’d love to see them!

  1. I hope that you enjoy Swordcatcher. I remember that parts of it were a bit longwinded but I did enjoy it.
I hope you enjoy Radiant King if you pick it up. I’ve seen great things about it so far.

    • I’m really struggling with Swordcatcher. It is SO SLOW, and all of the name-dropping makes the world-building feel really dense. Things are finally starting to pick up, but it has taken way too long.

  2. It’s good you’re getting better at DNFing books. It saves you time for the ones you’ll really enjoy. Reading should be fun, not feel like your dragging yourself through the end of the story. Good luck with your TBR. I hope you have a good reading month.

    • Yeah. I’m trying to get better at it. I’ve found that it’s easier to DNF library books because I don’t have any real attachment to them. I struggle DNFing stuff I’ve paid for or ARCs, though. It is a work in progress. lol.

      • I think it’s much harder to DNF books that I’ve paid for. I feel guilty about doing it to ARCs too. I’m more likely to skim through to the end and then only write a short review rather than not finish them

  3. Oh no, I’m so bummed to hear about Water Moon. Yours is the second (or maybe third) review I’ve seen that hasn’t been positive and now I’m worried I’ll struggle with the same things you mentioned. 😂 Oh well, maybe going in with much lowered expectations and kinda knowing what we’ll get will help me power through it! I loved Rebel Witch and I’m SO glad that you loved it too. It’s such a great series 😍 ACK, THE FEELS! I hope you enjoy all your current and future reads!
