The end of the year is rapidly approaching, which means it is time for the End of the Year Book Tag. I did this one in 2022, 2023, & 2024 too. The creator is Ariel at Books Unbound, and the latest version can be found on their podcast: https://www.booksunboundpodcast.com/.
Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?
Other than the three books that I’m actively reading, there are not. I’ve been pretty good about not letting books languish on my currently reading shelf this year. I’ve either finished or DNFd them.
Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?
Autumn to me screams spooky, gothic, and/or academia books. Hazelthorn by CG Drews, Higher Magic by Courtney Floyd, and All of Us Murderers by KJ Charles are all books I’ve read this autumn that possessed at least some of those vibes.

Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?
I am excited to finally get my hands on Fallen Stars by Imani Erriu. I was able to snag a copy of the Fairyloot edition. So, there’s no telling when it will get here, but the book technically releases later this month. I’m also dying to read This Brutal Moon by Bethany Jacobs. I’ve loved this series so far, and there’s no doubt in my mind that this will be an epic finale. Finally, I’m looking forward to The Once and Future Queen by Paula Lafferty. I’m a bit of a whore for anything Arthurian. So, this stunning book went on my MUST BUY list super quick. lol.

What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?
I’m a bit desperate to finally read the latest Freya Marske, Cinder House. She’s one of my favorite authors. So, I’m excited to see what she’s done in this novella. I also still need to read the final book of the Star Wars: The High Republic series. I think I’ve just been a little scared to see who survives and to say goodbye to this story arc. Finally, I really want to get to my long overdue ARC of The Mercy Makers by Tessa Gratton. So, watch out for these on next month’s TBR if I don’t get to them sooner.

Is there a book you think that could still shock you and become your favorite book of the year?
Two of my current reads have the potential, The Strength of the Few by James Islington & As Many Souls as Stars by Natasha Siegel. They are both off to a great start. Another book on my November TBR could potentially become my favorite, too, The Survivor Wants to Die at the End by Adam Silvera. Silvera has a knack for making me bawl my eyes out. So, I wouldn’t put it past him to sneak in and take the top spot. We’ll see.

Have you already started making reading plans for 2026?
I’ve already got some 2026 ARCs. Otherwise, I don’t have any plans other than my usual goal of reading 100 books. I’m sure I’ll have more goals as the new year draws closer. Maybe read more books from my shelves? That seems to be a pretty consistent one year to year, and I definitely need to try to do better at it. lol.
There you have it! My take on the End of the Year Book Tag. How is your end of the year shaping up? If you’d like to participate, consider yourself tagged! Be sure to link back so I can see your answers. 🙂
I love this tag and as far as I know, it was created by Ariel at Books Unbound and the latest version can be found on their recent podcast. https://www.booksunboundpodcast.com/
I’m currently reading This Brutal Moon and it’s definitely living up to my expectations so I hope that you get to read it soon. I really want to read The Strength of the Few as well although I have no idea how the story is going to go after the ending of the first book!!
Thank you so much for linking the creator! I’ll update the post and drop that info into it. The Strength of the Few is good so far. It is definitely a bit different from the first one, but I’m really curious to see where it is all going.
I was really surprised by how The Will of the Many ended and I can’t wait to see how the story goes forward in this one.
Thanks for the reminder that I also need to do this tag! I’ve had an ARC of THE ONCE AND FUTURE QUEEN for over a year now before it got picked up and given this stunning cover. Shame on me for not getting to it. But I’m also looking forward to getting my preorder in the mail!
The cover and edges really are stunning, and the story sounds so interesting. I don’t have it preordered, but I’ll definitely be picking it up the next time I’m in the bookstore. 😊
[…] End of the Year Book Tag (2025) by Chris at Biblio Nerd Reflections […]
[…] I did this tag back in 2019, 2022, and 2023, then completely forgot about it until I saw it at Biblio Nerd Reflections last […]
Hey there,
I also finish or DNF books. I see no sense in just letting them sit there just because I don’t feel the book. In some special cases I do put them back on my TBR if I feel it’s just not the right time for this specific book and topic.
Just by looking at the optics of some of your books in your post I could add at least 3 or 4 to my wishlist. That is also where Hazelthorn still waits due to my current 553 books high TBR. 😀
The Will of the Many is planned to be read in 2026 and if it is to my liking I will definitely consider The Strength of the Few to become part of my household.
I liked your post in mine (in English and German), which I published today.

I’ll occasionally put a DNF back on my TBR, too, if I think I’ll enjoy it more when in a different mood. But yeah. I don’t see the point of letting them languish if I’m not actively reading them.
Hazelthorn was so good! I hope you enjoy it when you get to it. I feel you on the TBR. My physical TBR is probably that big and constantly growing. lol.
I hope you enjoy The Will of the Many when you pick it up! I’m going to head over and check out your answers right now. 🙂
