Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?
What did you read last?
The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Katherine Arden – 5⭐ – This book blew me away. The characters and the circumstances were compelling and kept me hooked. I wasn’t sure about the speculative elements at first, but I ended up loving how they intersected with the events of WWI and the emotional/psychological impacts of the war on the characters. I loved this one so much that I bought the Goldsboro special edition. I’m already looking forward to reading the book again.
The Phoenix Bride by Natasha Siegel – 5⭐ – I was really lucky this week to find two five-star reads in a row! I loved this historical romance. It was emotional and had beautiful world-building. You can find all my thoughts in my review.
The Classified Dossier: Sherlock Holmes & Dorian Gray by Christian Klaver – 3.25⭐ – This wasn’t a bad book. It just wasn’t what I was expecting. The story was entertaining, and it was a fascinating mashup of so many classic characters. It just didn’t do enough with the title characters for me to love it. See my review for more information.

What are you currently reading?
Escape from Valo by Daniel Jose Older & Alyssa Wong (33%) – I haven’t always enjoyed Ram’s character because he always seemed a bit too juvenile, even for a middle grade story. He’s growing up in this one, though, and has to take on a mentor role, and I’m liking him more than I ever have before. The younglings in this book are ADORABLE, and I love how queer inclusive this story has been so far.
Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas (63%) – I have been eating this book up and enjoying every second of it. The previous book in this series was hit or miss for me, mostly because the pissing contest between the fae males got on my nerves. I’m loving how everything is coming together in this one, though. So many plot threads from the last few books are finally converging, and it is so good. I will say that I’m a bit over everyone being some sort of secret royalty or fae creature, though. It seems like pretty much every character in this story somehow ends up with a secret important past, and they all somehow wind up together. lol.
Lirael by Garth Nix (41%) – I love that we get to follow one of the kids of Sabriel and Touchstone. Things got wild there for a while. It went from the library setting to a zombie attack, which was quite a dramatic and exciting change. I’m curious to see how the different story threads come together since things are pretty split between Lirael and Sameth right now. Also, the Disreputable Dog is the best.
Swann’s Way by Marcel Proust (21%) – I didn’t have a chance to pick this one up this week. Maybe next week…

What will you read next?

The Wicker King by K. Ancrum, To Cage a God by Elizabeth May, Defy the Storm by Tessa Gratton & Justina Ireland
