WWW Wednesday (117) – January 15, 2025

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

How is it already the middle of January?! These first two weeks of 2025 have flown by so fast. I did manage to finish a couple more books this week, though. Yay!

The Hunter’s Gambit by Ciel Pierlot – 3.25⭐– This was a good, locked castle escape room adventure filled with vampires. I just wish the characters had a little more depth, and the pacing at the end was a bit wonky. I did really love how the author portrayed the vampires, though. They were vicious, casually cruel, and supremely decadent.

A Language of Dragons by S.F. Williamson – 3.75⭐ – This was a really great debut! It had a good mix of elements, including linguistics, dark academia vibes, political intrigue, and lots of dragons. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the main character, but my interest is definitely piqued enough to see where the story goes in the next book. You can find all of my thoughts in my review.

What are you currently reading?

Breath of the Dragon by Shannon Lee & Fonda Lee (73%) – I’ve been savoring this one because I love Fonda Lee’s writing so much. This has been a great coming-of-age story so far, and I think anyone who likes to read about martial arts competitions will eat this one up. I hope to finish reading it today.

Heavenly Tyrant by Xiran Jay Zhao (10%) – This sequel has finally arrived, and I’m stoked to be starting it. I’m enjoying it so far. The aftermath of the events at the end of book one has been really interesting. Things are definitely not going how the main character thought they would, and I’m very invested in seeing how she will navigate her new situation.

Stranger Skies by Pascale Lacelle (8%) – I still haven’t picked this one back up. Maybe once I finish Breath of the Dragon I’ll get back to it?

What will you read next?

Here is where this month’s TBR currently stands. I’ve finished two of my choices and have started one other.

This means not much has changed for my potential reads of the coming week:

Five Broken Blades by Mai Corland, The Bones Beneath My Skin by TJ Klune, The Rules of Royalty by Cale Dietrich

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? Let me know in the comments and feel free to link your WWW Wednesday posts there, as well. I’d love to see them!

  1. Uh… “Locked castle escape room adventure filled with vampires”?! That sounds amazing 😻 I felt the same way about the MC in Dragons but I also agree that it is a solid debut! I hope you continue enjoying your reads 🙂

  2. I love the cover for Stranger Skies. I hope you get back into it. Sometimes when you read more than one book at a time, others definitely take over! I have had that happen so many times. 🙂 I hope you enjoy Five Broken Blades! It’s on my plan for next month.

    • Stranger Skies does have a really beautiful cover. I loved the art of its predecessor, Curious Tides, too. I enjoyed Five Broken Blades for what it was. I look forward to seeing what you think.

      • Okay, I am thinking of gambling and seeing if the sequel ends up on BO. Five Broken Blades has been on there for a while now.. so I might be able to get the sequel on there too. lol. It’s on a challenge for the year, I’ll get to it eventually!
